I figured of all people that you would be the guy looking for good hard Division 1 experience in our next hire. I guess on this issue we will be switching roles. Not really. We would be taking a chance on either Norvell or Harbaugh. Norvell has no head coaching experience. Harbaugh does irrespective of the fact that his experience is at the 1-AA level. The majority of Norvell's coaching experience is at one or two positions - wide receivers and tight ends. Nebraska's offense in Callahan and Norvell's time there has not exactly been a model that I would wish to follow.
I will repeat what I have said in several posts. I have no problem with any of the candidates except Norvell. He is the one guy I didn't want from the beginning. Frankly, I thought his candidacy was a joke until this all broke today. I think that you and I would agree that Patterson would be a great hire and he has the numbers and experience to back him up.

How is Norvell a step up from Mac?

How is Harbaugh not a massive step down?

I do agree Urb. I think that Kragthorpe, Patterson and others who would have Division 1 experience would be solid hires. I guess I feel like you except that where you exclude Norvell, I exclude Harbaugh. But I can respect opinions outside of my own and I think we both know that Pollard will have plenty of good info to make a decision.

How is Norvell a step up from Mac? To quote Steve Deace:
* Jay Norvell, Nebraska?
Not sure why you fire Dan McCarney just to replace him with one of his former assistants? If you?re looking for a qualified minority candidate, which is a noble gesture, I think you?re looking in the wrong place here. Charley Strong, assistant head coach at Florida, is a far more qualified minority assistant coach, and one of the hot names in the country. In fact, Tony Alford would be a far better choice for ISU than Norvell. Most reminds me of?Somebody we should aim higher than.

Okay, someone else help me out getting up on Norvell again. That's the same thinking I used to diss Brewster so I can't turn face on Norvell.

Sure doesn't help though quoting Steve Deace

No, I just don't agree with a guy who comes to a Meet the Coaches night where everyone is dressed in there best Cardinal and Gold attire and here comes a big blue blob with a Big S on his Chest. None other than the Deace Man.

Re: Nervous about Harbaugh - Not me.
I agree that Harbaugh doesn't have the best resume. However, I have a sick feeling like if we don't hire him, he will move up to a DII scholarship program, win a DII national championship, then move up to a BCS program, be the next Stoops, followed by a gig in the NFL. We'll be sitting here 5 to 10 years from now thinking... "if only we had taken the risk."
I think in time that Harbaugh will have the resume, but then it will be late. The stars have aligned for us and we have an opportunity right now to take a young and up-and-coming coach and allow him to create his greatness at ISU.
I think for ISU to get a top flight candidate with a proven track record whom possesses the extra punch to get ISU to the next level is not very likely. I think we have to expect to take a risk and have faith in our AD to find a diamond in the rough. I think Harbaugh has the potential and signs of being that diamond. I believe if Pollard ends up choosing him, that he's confident that Harbaugh is the real deal and the proven track record that so many desire will be created over the next 5 years at ISU.
If Pollard chooses someone else, I hope the selection turns out to be the right decision and is great for ISU. Any maybe Harbaugh turns out to just be a lump of coal. However, I again have a feeling that Harbaugh will prove himself in time and go onto to greatness.
Right now I am excited to know he's currently on Pollard's list and hope Pollard finds him to be a diamond.
