Please not Norvell....
Please. I was one of DM's biggest critics, but I don't understand the point of firing the guy to hire one of his former assistants. Sorry, but I don't see what this guy brings to the table. IMO this is a tough sell to the fanbase.

Re: Please not Norvell....
It would be a tough sell, then again, if there's an AD that could sell it - it's Pollard.
But, I'd be surprised at the move because it is a D-Mac assistant and I think Pollard is trying to create a completely new start for ISU football - just as he did with basketball. If that is in fact his philosophy for the change - hiring someone like Norvell (or Loney, etc) would go against that.

Re: Please not Norvell....
Makes me wonder why he can't stay in one place for an extended period of time.

Norvell may be qualified, but A)It is not the 'sexy' hire that is needed to sell tickets, and B) I do not think it will be a former Mac assistant - because of the reasons you state. In addition, if we were entertaining former assistants to Mac I am SURE that Rhoads and Loney would be interviewed.

Re: Please not Norvell....
Look at the progression or lack there of. Never been advanced by people who he worked for. Chose to follow Callahan...that says a lot to me. Is not trusted by Callahan to call plays. Had a poor reputation when he was at ISU.
No chance he comes back in my mind. If he does it is a huge mistake and will set JP's facilities plan back perhaps beyond repair.

For those of you that knock Harbaugh or any other candidates for their expected short time frame with ISU - take notice of the job hopper that is Norvell.

Re: Please not Norvell....
Addition to my post....people in coaching and business usually find a way to keep people that are the outstanding performers. They move them up. They don't let them go easily. Yeah it happens but not everytime like has been with Norvell. I thought looking at topline last week that Pollard might go there, but since that time I have done my homework and man I just can't see it.

Why is no one questioning whether he would stay at ISU as everyone seems to be doing with Harbaugh? Let's speculate and say that Ferentz gets a NFL job, what would stop him from trying to go home to Iowa?
Sorry, no more ex-Hawks. I am really up for a change in direction. If we are going to hire a former DM assistant, let's at least go with Loney, Rhodes, or Phil Bennett. Norvell is the one guy on the list that I have zero interest in as our head coach.

Re: Please not Norvell....
Again, I am not backing Norvell right now, but I do think he is a better option then Harbaugh!

To add to this - i read on Sportsline earlier today that Callahan was out essentially stumping for Norvell, saying things like "He would be a great candidate", etc. Doesn't sound like a HC that would be incredibly torn if Norvell left.

Re: Please not Norvell....
I get the feeling that since Callahan is "promoting" Norvell for a head coaching spot, Callahan is just trying to get rid of Norvell. (my opinion).

Re: Please not Norvell....
Hmmm, I don't like hearing about that - Callahan selling Norvell.
While it's nice his boss is rooting for him, most competitive coaches I watch and read stuff from don't ever want to lose assistants. They know it's part of the game, but they don't go out of the way to lose good people. So Callahan doing this has to seem a bit strange.
