Norvell Slams Officials In Aired Broadcast
I am sorry...I should have prefaced this post originally. I am in the process of posting several stories about Norvell that I dug up. All are in my eyes actually positive. I like the fire and logic he showed in the story below.
Coach's Outburst Heard During Commercial Break
by Mark Fricke
October 29, 2005
Frustration and not knowing his comments may have gotten the best of Nebraska quarterbacks coach Jay Norvell as he vented his frustration with a profanity laced tired over officiating during a radio broadcast feed.
Norvell was apparently unaware that his comments could be heard over a live internet feed of the radio broadcast.
Norvell was being interviewed on the Pinnacle Sports program “Coaches Wrap up” just minutes after his Huskers lost to Oklahoma 31-24. The over the air-broadcast went to commercial so those listening on the Pinnacle Sports network did not here the comments. However the internet feed of the broadcast did not air the commercials and instead kept Norvell's mike live for his off-hand comments to be heard.
Norvell took the opportunity during the break to voice his displeasure at the officiating crew that handled the game. Speaking to an unheard person Norvell said that he knew he wasn’t supposed to comment on the officials but “they are the worst friggin' officials in the world"
Nebraska’s defense leads the nation in quarterback sacks, however opponents have only been called for one holding call all year long. It’s a point that hasn’t been lost on observers and certainly not on Norvell.
"Lead the nation in sacks and we can't get a (expletive) holding call.” Norvell vented. He then labeled the officials derogatorily as “Texas officials”

Those officials were HORRIBLE in the game last year! We all complaing about officials.
Let also not forget that Harbaugh drank a few too many beers, then decided to drive his car. I would much rather have a coach who was vocal about something he believed went wrong in a game then someone who endangers lives by driving drunk!

This is getting out of hand.

Oh, didn't realize that article was from a year ago. Disregard my previous statement.

I heard that Brewster kicked his neighbor's dog once and that's why he has dropped off the list. -

I will edit the original post to add the above thought.

Re: Norvell Slams Officials In Aired Broadcast
Oh yeah sounds like a great coach, dropping F bombs b/c officials suck and getting it heard on the radio. And thats him as an assistant coach who doesn't even call plays!! How is he going to be when he is the face of a program who has to do an interview every day? The guy is a timebomb ready to explode and if we hire him he may take our program down with him (not that our program was that high to begin with, but at least we were respected)

Re: Norvell Slams Officials In Aired Broadcast
Dude are you telling me you dont swear at least once a day? The man thought he was off air, which he was. What he did not relized is evven though he was off air, that the commericals that are played on the air are not played on the intenet feed, so people listening on the internet could hear what he was saying. I guarentee you when stuff like this happenes most every coach in the country is saying the same stuff when they think they are behind close doors. Bottom lines is the man has credentials that show he can do good things for ISU. He may not be the most exciting hire, but at the same time, neither was Ferentz for Iowa and look at what he has done. Norvell shows credentials that make him less of a risk then Harbaugh...BOTTOM LINE!!!!

While I am not in the Norvell camp... I have spent quite a bit of time reading all I can about Norvell and I have come across nothing to justify your statement that he is a time bomb ready to explode. Using your logic Orr, Floyd, Eustachey, all were bad hires.

Re: Norvell Slams Officials In Aired Broadcast
Why is it that I have heard several former players under Norvell say they hated him as a coach and as a person and that he would be a terrible hire for ISU? I guess they don't know anything though! Norvell is an a-hole. He is a terrible human being who thinks his shiz don't stink. If we want a guy that has no class we could just hire Pinkel away from Mizzou and let him make a fool of our University in front of the press.

I heard he called his mommy a mean name when he was 7.
