If Pollard does indeed hire Jay Norvell, I think we need to face facts and change our name to the Iowa State Hawksers. Our mascot could be a Hawk wearing a cowboy hat and wearing overalls.

Sitting here thinking of us hiring another Hawkeye and Husker coaching our team makes my stomach turn. If Norvell is such a great coach to-be, than let him wait in line for the UorI job (of which I have never heard his name brought up as a successor to KF).

I have to believe (I pray) that JP knows we deserve our own identity, not know as the school that are nothing more than Iowa/Nebraska wanna-bes!

...also, did anyone else notice how not disapointing Calhoun looked on TV talking about Norvell going to ISU. Didn't seem to bother him at all.

He has been an Assitant under Callahan for 5 or 6 years. Most people are happy when they know that the assitants they hired go out and are successful. Also, assitants are pretty easy to replace!

Everyone also need to get off the whole "I dont want another Iowa guy or Nebraska guy" Those are 2 very respectable and successful programs, and other then the fact that you dont like them, or they are our rivals, give me ONE good reason why we should not take people from those schools!

I would take a coach with lots of experiance at the D-1 level like Jay Norvell instead of just a name like Jim Harbaugh he hasnt prooven anything to me, and he hasnt coached a down of D-1 football Jay Norvell at least has coached for programs with sucess and it has been Norvell's offense that has picked apart our Cyclones for the past couple years.. Its time for a change.

I agree!!! I am not out her compaining for Norvell, I am just pointing out that it would not be a bad hire at all!!! IMO we should look at Kragthorpe and even Bennet, and if Patterson is interested at all, we should be looking at him. I would rather bring a head coach in from a Division 1 non BCS team before I would want an assitant like Norvell, but I would rather take someone who has expereince as an assitant at various D-1 programs over someone who has been at a D-II school for only THREE YEARS!

JP will hire the best person for the job, period. I don't care where the coach went to school or who he coached under, as long as he can get the job done. People need to stop whining about this and trust that our AD will do his job and do it well when hiring the next football coach. It's fun to speculate, but us as fans eliminating candidates based on where they played football or coached football a millennium ago is short-sighted. Also, for those of you who think we don't need a Hawk as our next head coach, let's just say for fun that Bob Stoops or Barry Alvarez was looking at the Iowa State job (I know, it's a purely wishful thinking). Would everyone be opposed to either of them coaching Iowa State? I sure as heck wouldn't. The point is, if the person hired can turn out to be a great coach and a great hire by JP, no one will care where he played football in college or where he coached last.

One could argue that DMac was the least successful branch on the Hayden Fry coaching tree. So lets not judge the tree by our branch.

Just get a coach that will win and two years from now none of us will care where he came from. In fact we will tweak our hawk friends or husker friends or whatever friends that we hired the coach that they should have had in the post Ferentz era.

I think we all need to quit worrying if a coach has ties to the university of Iowa. If he's a good coach....WHO CARES. That being said, I'm not all that excited about Norvell...but if he comes I will embrace him.

Harbaugh would bring sizzle to the program that no one else can. Maybe more than Ames can handle. How would you lkike your coach to look like Kansas HC or Toledo HC. McC has slimmed down over years by walking the sidelines.

Norvell has the reputation as a slinger (pass it on every down no matter what). I believe he was calling a lot of the plays, or at least influencing them at Nebraska before this year. This year Callihan has been calling plays more on his own, and NU has been running the ball successfully...

NOPE...Callhan told everyone when he started at NU that he would be the one calling the plays. Laso, Norvell was our OC when Troy Davis was here, so to say he calls passes on every play shows that you have no idea what you are talking about.
