My top choices-If anyone care

Mike Price-Has turned around a lot of programs. He's proven and I like his offenses. Downside is his history but I think he's paid the price.

Steve Loney-His offenses while in college have been impressive everywhere he has been. He knows a lot about line play and IMO that's what it's all about. Downside is that he has a personality kind of like Ferentz. He doesn't seem to have a lot of "mac talk" but as long as we win I could care less. The other big upside is that he's a Cyclone.

Brian Kelly-Once again, I like what he has shown on offense at Central Michigan but I don't know if it will work the same at ISU with our players. I don't know much about his personality.

All 3 of these guys are proven on the offensive side and I would think Price and Loney could find a good D-coordinator with all the places they've been and the people they know.

I just don't agree with them.

Actually, I like Price but I'm not a huge fan of the other two.

I'd like to see Price, Patterson (not much of a chance IMO), or Harbaugh.

Unpopular choices but decent points...

I would take any of those 3 over Dan but wouldn't be as excited to see them as I would a few others.

I'm with you on Price. Look at what he did while at Wazzou. And remember he did this with a very modest budget and facilities while getting great recruits to come to Pullman, WA., which is really off the beaten track.

I love Harbaugh as a coaching candidate, but I just think the uncertainty with how long he would stay would really hamstring our recruiting over the long haul. If we hired Harbaugh and had to deal with constant rumors of where he might coach next, and at the same time couldn't ink him to a long term deal, I think it would hurt the program.

Price's mistake is old news, and the stigma of him being damaged goods has been largely removed from his hiring and performance at UTEP. And at Price's age, he wouldn't be looking to jump to another school necessarily. We need some stability right now in the football program. We need consistent cash flow, butts in the seats and enthusiasm for the program. Mike Price's teams are consistently good and great, they always play sound fundamental football, and they compete with and often beat the top teams in conference. Oh, and also having coached UTEP, Price now has established recruiting ties in the state of Texas which is a big plus too.

I'll say this, I do not want Jay Norvell as our next head coach. IMO, any of the other candidates are better choices. I'll be extremely disappointed if Norvell gets the job.

I have been a Price fan for years. My nephew played for him at Washington State. Player coach, no nonsense, his kids graduate, and he gets the most out kids that don't get recurited elsewhere. The Alabama thing is past news, besides Destiny didn't matter, it was the Bible belt. They love this guy in El Paso, I travel there every month and he is very involved in the community. Question is would he leave for ISU after his second chance in El Paso? the weather there isn't Ames. He also doesn't need the money. Proven in every way and he has 2 sons as asst coaches. One was just mentioned for the North texas job.

The big reason I pick out these 3 is because they can all coach. Mac was a motivational leader which is great and may even allow you to win some games (see Iowa games) but we need someone that actually knows football. When Loney left both times we saw an instant drop-off which wouldn't have happened with a good offensive coach.

I would cite my top 3 as:

1. Jim Tressel
2. Pete Carroll
3. Toss up: Mack Brown or Bob Stoops

I would consider Joe Pa if he would be willing to guarantee he stays for 10-years, minimum.

Loney is my first choice. Recuiting would be his biggest obstacle, but many do not seem to realize that the assistants are much more responsible for recruiting. Do you think Bill Callahan is bringing in the guys as NU? I think it is John Blake too.

Loney is not getting much attention. Why? His successes or failures in the NFL have little to do with college coaching. Steve Spurrier would tell you that.
Winning will bring people on board, not a "big name".
