Re: Story on Taggart transferring to Memphis
I changed the title to reflect how his name is actually spelled. You'd think that Cyclone fans, who consider themselves brighter than the average bear, could figure out how to spell some names. If there's one positive out of the defections, we won't have to deal with Taggert and Blaylock again.

And yet you spelled Blalock's name wrong....

Re: Story on Taggart transferring to Memphis
here is the difference, I never said that you were stupid, just that your post was.You said these players came from winning programs, and their teams will miss them, in a post about taggs leaving. That clearly insinuates that taggs old team didn't do either of those, which they did. In addittion if you have never seen any of those players swear, then you must not watch any basketball. I know this for a fact, Johnny will never be invited to a team event, McD may have a heart attack. It is an emotional game, and when things happens a player swears. What I have come up with from the people on this board as to who we need to get as recruits now it is:
A) somkeone who really truelly wants to be a clone
B) don't have to be talented, just need to work hard
C) no swearing or you get the bench.
What that basically describes is the small portion of the menonite community that could be considered an Iowa State fan. Does anyone seriously think fizer dreamed of being a clone, or tinsley, or clark for that matter. They all came here for the coach people. If you got rid of everyone on the team who didn't come to the school to be a clone you would be left with ross, AT, and likely the walk-ons. And that would be considered a pretty good team in terms of what we are looking for. If Mcd is chewing out people for swearing, what will happen the first time he hears that 21+ year old players go to a bar? He mightrun them off too. We just got rid of the puritanical reign of BVD which put my contributions in the tank, and now we may have the same situation in the head bball coach? As much as I have always loved the clones, there is absolutly no way I would have played there with a coach telling me I can't swear in practice, because I have to image he has a list of rules as long as WB's arm. These guys are not children and should not be treated as such.

This is funny..
Anyway I agree that he is they most overrated recruit we have ever had. Other than a decent shot, he couldn't do crap. I can name plenty of ISU freshman that had better 1st years than Tags did.
Good Luck and see ya.

go ahead then and name them, i can think of about 5, but only 1 big guy

Re: Story on Taggart transferring to Memphis
I was just makin a joke about you seeing every player since 1950 swear... I agree that people swear when they're frustrated... and I don't know the circumstances behind it so I'm not going to side with McD or Taggart on the issue. But there's a difference between excessive pointless swearing, and doing it when you're upset. I know in class my prof's wouldn't appreciate it if I just swore when answering questions. It's more of a sign of respect to McD and fans by not swearing. Anyway, like I said, I don't know what happened so I'm not going to take sides.
And as for part A) someone who really truely wants to be a clone... no, when people come here they may not be coming to be a Cyclone. I'm originally from MN, and I didn't know much about ISU so I didn't come here because I wanted to be a Clone, I came here for the programs it offered, and they gave me a scholarship to come here too. They are investing in me and have treated me well and I fell in love with the school and I don't want to be anything other than a Clone now. You need people with these attitudes. Because not only did Wayne Morgan invest in those players, everyone who watches basketball did. And when Morgan left, all of those fans are still here. That scholarship money was still there for them. That free education was still there. And heck, how about a starting spot on the basketball team being there. But people give scholarships out as an investment, not a free hand out. And did those guys riding on the Firetruck at Veishea fall in love with ISU and Veishea, or did they fall in love with themselves being in front of a bunch of people praising them?
My guess is what people are saying when they want recruits who want to be 'Clones, they mean that they want recruits who want to be part of something, a team, and have loyalty to that team. Not someone who is there for self promotion, because those players don't care about team basketball, they care about making themselves look good and not making their teammates look good.
There could be many reasons why Taggart and Degand wanted to leave, and they could be legitimate reasons. But personally, if Taggart knew he "had to get out of there" because McD asked him not to swear. That's not a good enough reason for me, because my mother asks me not to swear, but that doesn't give me the right to find a new family. My parents have done a lot for me. And ISU has done a lot for these players.
as for B) not talented, but work hard... those guys are pointing out how "not as talented but work hard" got to the dance under McD, where as talent, but didn't work as hard didn't make NIT at ISU. But the teams win, are those that are talented and work hard. That's what we need.
This is my sarcasm pirate. There are many like it but this one is mine. -
Re: Story on Taggart transferring to Memphis
I don't see how hard it is for a player of any type to watch his mouth. Is it that hard to find substitutes forswearing?
Remember that stressed spelled backwards is desserts!

Re: Story on Taggart transferring to Memphis
okely dokely. You obviosly have never been in a competition in your life. Why would you want our players to have to think about something other than playing bball? they should be thinking 100% on that, and whatever comes out comes out

Re: Story on Taggart transferring to Memphis
After sitting out next year and with his mobility, he will prorbably balloooooon to about 280. That would just take the cake.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Story on Taggart transferring to Memphis
I, too, wont take sides on this issue. but i find it a good time to bring out my favorite quote...
"Hard work beats talent when talent doesnt work hard."
Simple, yes, but I think this quote fits the scenario at hand.
