While we're all busy convincing ourselves and others that Kelly is the pick, I'm not so sure. What we don't know is who Pollard met with in Dallas. He knows the stakes on this one, and I find it hard to believe that Kelly is or was the number one pick of the litter. Beating out Michigan State doesn't mean squat to me, the question is who is the best coach. Can he:
1. Unite the fans
2. Recruit
3. Win at this level
We don't know and neither does JP. There still may be a November surprise before it's done. I don't know who it may be. Any thoughts?

Something tells me that it is someone else. Got nothing to base that on, just instinct.

I'm with you urbclone...something doesn't seem to add up. Flying to Chicago would make more sense, or Detroit...the Dallas think puts up a red flag for me.

We could just as easily hire gene Kelly. I cannot believe that is the ultimate result of firing McC either. We want a step up of some kind.

I think he would be a Cyclone. He's not a huge name that would want to leave fast. So we could have him for a long time. And he is not a Hawk or Husker, which systems to be important to everyone. At least here at CF. I do agree that beating out MSU is not that big of deal. That job is overrated. It's a Bball school that is by far the second choice in the same conf. for football. And now many be behind some mid-majors...Like CM. So, I don't mind the Kelly choice. He's not a sexy name, but then ISU is not either. I think we want someone like us and may be.

LSU did play their game on Friday, possibly giving Pelini Saturday off.

I agree on the Polini possiblity...Pollard and Kelly aren't exactly faces that people know who have to hide out. Flying to Dallas takes time that neither of these guys has a lot extra of. I could see Pollard flying to Detroit or whatever airport Kelly flys out of for a meeting. But making him fly all the way to Dallas makes no sense. That is not the way I would handle this.

Chizek has gone on record to say he's not interested in the ISU job.
Then again, that can always change too.

Then again, that can always change too. Yeah, as in "I'm not interested at that salary....but now that you've gone up I am". |
Fanatic #25 - Will never think of the Disney hotel showers the same again thanks to a certain poster here.

Then again, that can always change too. Just curious, I thought Pellini did the same thing early on?
