Why would Kelly be in Ames tomorrow night?

He's gotta be preparing for their big title game at Ohio Thursday night, right?

I just find that curious...as it would add major distraction.

When your new employer is going to be paying you over a million dollars a year you show up at the press conference announcing your hiring.

Yes, this is the #1 reason why I believe Pollard might be having a surprise in store.

Here's my opinion: If Kelly is willing to abandon his current team 4 days before a championship game (3 days left of practice), I don't know if I want him in Ames. Is he going to abandon us in 4 years the week of the Big 12 title game to take over the Michigan job???

There is NO REASON why Pollard and Kelly couldn't wait until a week from this Monday for the press conference. If the contract is signed, there is no worry about MSU stepping in. If it is Kelly, this is still an interesting story for Central Michigan.

I agree, this doesn't make any sense.
Why would the MSU website have info before any of us?

I hope that is $1 Million after royalties and not base salary. NO WAY does he deserve a higher, guaranteed base pay then Dan McCarney in year 12.

I agree that money talks. Yet it's just odd, the timing of it. I would think if it was done, both sides would want to wait a week.

I have a hard time believing that Kelly was JP's first choice from the very beginning.

1 Week in recruiting is crucial. We need to start getting our Sh$t together for next year or we will be 0-11. I think that would be a reason for the rush.

Re: Why would Kelly be in Ames tomorrow night?

I am in the same boat as you guys wondering why tomorrow. I honestly have no answer for you. If we're being told wrong on Kelly, it sure has a lot of people fooled.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

It would be easier to recruit by saying that you just got done coaching your team to a conference championship.

You guys are making valid points, all reasons to believe that a suprise coach could be in store.

Re: Why would Kelly be in Ames tomorrow night?

We need a coach ASAP. A week would damage our program. We need assistants. We need to recruit. Screw Central Michigan. This is a business.
