I'm gonna send that article right back to Jeff McDonald after we beat Texas. Next McCarney? What a misinformed little man.
Everything I'm seeing out of Texas is so laced with jealousy. It is quite sad. ISU was told early on in the coaching search that Chizik is "too good" to come to Ames. Now that he is here, he suddenly has been pinned as the problem in Austin and the reason they lost the last two games. Wow. Childish.
Ouch! Someone p!ssed in that writer's cheerios this morning! I thought only women were that catty...
The thing I hate the most about living in Texas is Texas Pride. Everyone that was born down here seems to think that no place could be better in anyway. Well, many of them do. Some don't. But still it is really sad.
They know damn well that the balance of power is slowly shifting north in this conference! Chitzick is the man!
wow... simply wow. You know what, if Chizik is really successful here, why in the world would he need to go to a different school? If all of a sudden we are consistently successful, then we're a powerhouse! We aren't some mid-major school that can never rise above its status... we're a full fledged D1 school!!!! Sheesh... I agree with the rest of you, they're just really really sour we got him.
People for the love of God it's CHIZIK CHIZIK CHIZIK CHIZIK CHIZIK.
Not Chizick, not Chitzick, not Chizzik, and not Chizic. Make yourself look like an informed ISU football fan and learn how to spell the man's name.
Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.
I thought about replying, and when I couldn't even find the writers name and emails listed as having worked for the paper I just realized what is the point.
It is an obviously ignorrant article. I love Mac and what he did for ISU, but we all know he came to a dead program, short on schollies, and with ZERO expectations. Now he built a solid foundation. There is an expectation. And Goddammit, WHY NOT IOWA STATE!
Several of you hit the nail on the head. The story will go like this... ISU can never get this guy to... ahh he really wasn't that great anyway.
I do think the quotes from Mack Brown prove he is a stand up guy, but half those moroons (fans) want to get rid of him because he lost 3 games this year.
If they really believe DM did about as good a job as could be expected then maybe they have already found their next defensive coordinator.
I love how critical all these outsiders are of ISU in spite of the fact that he was given 12 years at ISU. How long would Texas give their national championship coach if he went 1-7 in the Big XII conference.
EXACTLY Skyh13. If he can elevate us to the next level, he's already in the Big 12 and plays the likes of Neb., Colo, K-State every year, the biggies from the south on the rotation, and the hated in-state Big 10 opponent. Wasn't Ohio St. courting Stoops in 2001? But he didn't take b/c he was already at a big name program. Bill Snyder didn't run off to Texas or USC or Miami after he turned the puddy cats around, why? b/c he was already competing against some of the nations best year in and year out. I think the Ames community will be great for his family and he seems to be the kind of guy who would factor that into any decisions on moving.
We all loved Mac for all the things he did right, but quite frankly his record against anyone but celar dwellers was terrible. Iowa was the only decent team that mac had any success against. Without beating the Hawks those 5 years in a row, Mac not only would have been fired a long time ago, he would not have gone to most of those bowl games.
It is time for someone else to have a chance, and Chizik look pretty good to most of us. I like how they blame him for all the defensive problems in the last two games and then blast ISU for letting Mac go after 12 very average or worse seasons.
If he is so horrible, why do these guys care?
Like has been said already in here.....it sure is odd that first Chizik went from being too good for ISU to even imagine getting to being horrible, and a product only of the talent that had been recruited to the programs before he had gotten there.
This is merely a case of baby crying trying to keep its bottle - they lose their D-Coordinator to a conference foe (albeit not an intimidating one - YET) and he's the reason they lost three games. Again, the three games they lost? Ohio State, everyone's #1 - by a mile. K-State, QB gets knocked out AND they lose by 3 pts. A&M, Colt's game back after the injury, they lose 12-7. D-Coordinator's fault? Clearly: can't beat #1 team in the nation (welcome to the club), can't keep his defense off the field after starting QB goes down, can't hold Texas A&M to less than 12 pts.
TEXAS: "Yes, Iowa State, you can have him."
IOWA STATE: "Oh, really? Seriously? Ok, thank you very much! See you in the Big 12 Championship in a few yrs!"
