Re: Iowa City paper column on Pollard
not too bad of a article and he makes some really good points.
BUT maybe Pollard will duck his head and run like Bowlsby did and avoid having to deal with Alfords contract before he left!

Sounds like we need to need to send some olive loaf to Pat Hardy next year after the Iowa-Iowa State football game... when we kick their bu__s back to IC

Re: Iowa City paper column on Pollard
That will play well in Iowa City. Which means the article is garbage. Typical squawkeye arrogance.

Re: Iowa City paper column on Pollard
Please tell us something that we don't know Pat! Every Cyclone fan understands how this is a very important time for ISU athletics with wrestling, basketball, and football trying to get back on track and help complete the "Next Big Step" plan. The real thing is, Iowa State fans are very excited about the future of their athletics teams, while other schools, especially Iowa, are scared as hell of what Jamie is doing and the things that Iowa State can potentially accomplish.

Re: Iowa City paper column on Pollard
I honestly think it was a good article. Most of what he said was true. I don't see what was so bad about it. He layed out the facts that were true and he is right about ISU needing to step up or are all will fail.

I don't see anything wrong with it, but he doesn't say anything that hasn't been said on here or in another place 5000 times already.

Re: Iowa City paper column on Pollard
true
pat stated the obvious, but its not like he was going out of his way to dog us.....he could be right, but its not like he pioneered that line of thinking

Re: Iowa City paper column on Pollard
I don't think it was a bad article. I still see it as very condescending to ISU though. For some reason Iowa thinks they are a football power house. They've made 1 BCS bowl in how many years. And then have lucked into some decent bowls including a new years day bowl last year. I've asked before and still wonder, had this hire happened in Iowa City, would we be hearing the same crap. ISU is only a couple of more bowls and one BCS birth from Iowas recent "Dominance". Yes, he is stating facts, but, they are all facts everyone knows. I think it's glaring us all in the face that we are going to have to pony up to keep this ride going. And that failure here could mean a big set back. Honestly though. I don't see anything happening in Iowa city that's making me think they are somehow superior to us or that their program isn't on the verge of taking a major downfall. Slap a couple more 6-6 seasons together, start losing to ISU consistently again and maybe even not make a bowl a year or two and I think their could be a lot of problems there. I think I speak the truth about that, but, it's fairly obvious too. If you don't win, you are going to have trouble.
In the end I feel it's the same argument from outsiders as, "Who are you going to get who's any better than Mac?" Now, that everyone feels we may have done better, now they are digging for ways to make this somehow a bad hire. Now I get the feeling everyone outside of ISU is telling us this may have been a bad idea because rather than take a risk on success you should shut your mouth, hire a nobody and sit there and enjoy what little success you have. Maybe this is just a Cyclone inferiority complex I have after being a fan for so many years, but, it seems, even when we make a good move, people want to try to pick at us for it rather than just saying, "WOW, that was a step in the right direction." Everyone still wants to point out how we will probably fail.
Let us get a few games under our belt with Chizik before everyone starts telling us how we are going to fail, or if we don't fail, god forbid, how our coach is going to run for greener pastures.

the "excited about drawing 50,000" comment shows fear. he wouldnt take a jab like that if he was confident.

Re: Iowa City paper column on Pollard
What he leaves out is
1. If Ferenz is 500 next year and loses to ISU, he could be out..that's no joke
2. Ferenz total package is 4.2 million according to USA today, third in the US
3. Iowa is begging for an easy opponent in the Alamo bowl
4. The Hawks were 2-6 in the confenence and almost lost to Syracuse
5. Iowa fans hate Alford, hardly a super hire
6. Until this year, ISU has dominated the head to head in football the last few years
7. ISU landed a top FM station as flagship for their network and there is more and more interest in Cyclone football
8. Iowa recently added on to their stadium..how much did that cost?
Things aren't all rosey in Hawkville...Ferenz is on the hot seat...and if Texas kicks their A..., it will be even tougher.

The contempt for the hire versus the other opportunities doesn't take into account that Chizik is a family guy with four little kids. This hints at a lack of appreciation for what life in Ames is like for families, and the family atmosphere of the ISU community.
The author is also a professional journalist so the elitism is no surprise.

Re: Iowa City paper column on Pollard
I too thought it was a good article. All of it was true, and done in a respectful matter.
