Greg Oden

I have never heard one player that is not involved in the game be talked about as much as this guy. If he doesn't come in and put up 30 and 15 every night, Dickie V might just keel over. The hype is just unreal! They are talking about him more than one of the most exciting college basketball games all season.

Re: Greg Oden

If Oden does anything at all this season he's still probably the #1 pick in the draft. I would not be surprised to see a double double out of him when he is healthy enough to play. How much scoring he'll do we'll see because by the time he gets back OSU will already have some established scorers. That is a good Ohio State team and will be even more scary when Oden plays.

Re: Greg Oden

Does anyone else think its kind of fishy how Ohio St has been pretty poor in bball for the past 10 years (minus the Redd and Scoonie Penn days) but yet they got possibly the greatest recruiting class ever last year??

I believe it was the Sporting News (could have been SI) that gave Oden the pre-season All-American at his position. The hype is ridiculous but probably deserved; being the case Ohio State is my pick to win the NCAA tourney.

Ohio State has the best recruiting class this year for two reasons: 1. they had a stellar recruting class last year, and a decent season....but more importantly 2. Thad Matta.

Re: Greg Oden

I understand they had a good year last year, but these guys were going to Ohio St before last season even started. And are you trying to tell me that these guys had all these offers from coach K, Roy W, and they said Nah lets go with THAD MATTA. Ex Xavier coach. The thing about this is that some of these guys are from Indiana. They left the state of Indiana to go to Ohio St? Call me crazy but it seems fishy.

Re: Greg Oden

You have to look at Thad's connections and resume. He is a big deal in the Ohio/Indiana area. He has had spectacular seasons with Butler University (24-8) and then on to Xavier (26-6). He is one of those coaches that started small and got big (similar to GMac in that sense). Personally, I don't think it is that surprising that he is going to get good players, and add on that it is The Ohio State University.

Ohio State loses. Minnesota gets blasted. Looks like Big Ten in basketball is like Big 12 in football this year. Not quite cranking on all cylinders.

Re: Greg Oden

Thad Matta is a great coach and recruiter. You can ask the same about how does Mac get an impressive class coming in next season and he has been at ISU not even a season yet? Granted that Brackins is no Greg Oden but even Hawkeye-biased Mac McCausland mentioned our recruiting class last night with the word "impressive" thrown in there.
