Bright spots from last nights game

Some things I saw which were positives from last nights game....

- Wesley Johnson is going to be amazing. He is very athletic, and can shoot the rock. His defense is also very solid

- Jessan Gray is going to be great for us. He can shoot it deep, plays very solid D downlow. The only weakness in his game I see right now is his lack of inside moves.

- McD coached well in that he was able to get his team to come out and fight back into the game at half being down by 9.

- Players were scoring other Taylor

- Jiri can do nothing but improve :-(

Despite a 13 point loss (it was actually much closer than that), I was impressed with our play. Our best player shot 1-9 for 5 points after averaging 19. Jiri was rusty...very, very rusty. W. Johnson played great, both offensively and defensively. He is going to be a stud. Jessan played excellent I thought. He has gotten better and better each game.

We took A LOT of bad shots...way to many. I bet that GMac will work to correct that. We shot very poorly but were within 1-6 points throughout the 2nd half until the end.

I think we are further along at this point than I expected.

I agree with that. We were outplayed, no question, but we can play a lot smarter than we did last night. Hopefully Coach Mac can get a better performance out of his players.

Side benefit is that players will more clearly see the need to follow direction of coaches. I have often heard coaches say the most difficult team to coach is an undefeated one.

I think we were only within 1-6 points throughout the second half because UNI was also shooting very poorly.

Re: Bright spots from last nights game

The difference in the game was Mike Taylor's inability to go unconscious (sp?) and score many points at all, and no one was there to step and take his place. If we could have had just a few more buckets go in instead of out, the game would have been tied near the end instead of down by 5-6, thus creating a whole new ending instead of a charity stripe fiasco on our part at the end to create the 13 point margin.

The game was very close and could have easily went in our favor. Not a bad loss to a good team, we still need to improve.

Chizik: "One thing that I’d encourage our fans…I want them to be the loudest stadium in the Big 12. I don’t care…I want Jack Trice stadium to be the loudest in the Big 12 and I think that creates homefield advantage.... I want to stress to everyone…I want this place to be juiced up. They bought 36,000 season tickets so there is a passion there…don’t hide it…let it out. I want there to be a passion in the stadium."

Wesely Johnson was the biggest bright spot, he is going to be a very exciting player to watch. It is nice to see Jessan Gray to start coming on strong, hopefully it can continue. Jiri although a really bad night, he will start getting the grasp of the offense and come on strong (hopefully). Taylor just needs to learn how to control the tempo of the game more, when we get behind he thinks that he has to take over no matter what kind of shot he has to take. All in all game was a lot closer than the score says, we will keep getting better as the year goes on, so no worries yet.

Jiri was the proverbial human-black hole last night. Seriously, did he pass the ball once? The only times I remember him passing were after defensive rebounds.

But as you say, he can do nothing but improve.
