A fairly easy adjustment to the current system would be an 8 team playoff, with the teams determined similar to the way the BCS chooses their bowl teams currently (6 power conference champions plus 2 at-large). This would take 7 games instead of the current 4, but most everyone agrees there are too many now anyway. It would also eliminate 6 bubble teams from bowls and replace them with playoff match-ups, generating more total revenue. Everybody wins! Yeah well, ya know, that's just, like uh, your opinion, man. -
Re: USC goes down....
I think all the BCS woes would be immediately fixed with a playoff system. The top 8 would play out like 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, and 4 vs 5. The system is fine, except for the fact that only allows the 1 and 2 to go at it for the national championship. I REALLY don't see how this would disrupt the bowl system.

Re: USC goes down....
I think it should be 16 teams.....4 games to the title. Skip the current 12th game, skip the conference championships and you have only one extra game......for the title. Makes all the sense in the world, but I'll be suprised if we ever see it. -
Re: USC goes down....
Michigan played OSU tough in OSUs house. On a neutral field or in Ann Arbor, that game goes the other way. And I don't understand how Michigan can't be the second best team when they only have one loss, to the best team in the country on the road. Michigan is a far better team than USC was, even before they tanked to UCLA.

Re: USC goes down....
Hard to have symopathy for any team that was beat at least once. Only Boise State and Ohio State can brag to this point. I assume Oklahoma will stuff Boise State and Ohio State will lose to Mich the second time or Florida the first time. Then the debate will rage on again. Funny. Yet we know who the best team is in the pros. Just look at how good Pittsburgh and Seattle are this year....

Re: USC goes down....
The team that really got screwed this year was Oklahoma. If they didn't have that bogus loss to Oregon they would be in the championship game discussion, too.
As Dane Cook might say: They are getting ****ed, bigtime.

NCAA 1-A Football is the only sport in college athletics without a true playoff? Why? So we can watch 6-6 teams battle it out for the coveted Humanitarian Bowl Championship?
A 16 team, 4 week, D1 football playoff starting next weekend would be huge and the talk of the sports world. The money generated would help everyone, even the teams which do not make the playoff. If lesser teams wanted to continue with the small bowl games, let them. This would work similarly to the way there is a NIT in addition to the NCAA Tournament. I don't see how a playoff would diminish the regular season in any way. Teams would still need to win to be assured of a spot in the playoff?

This is what I would like to see as well. You could incorporate the BCS and upper tier bowl games into the playoff.

As Dane Cook might say: They are getting ****ed, bigtime. No doubt about it, Sooners would be in the National Title game if the Oregon fiasco didn't happen! O well, I want to see Florida make it...
