Clone Zone??? -- Pollard has gone to far
OK --
So apparently content on Cyclones.com will now be subscription based. In order to see press conferences, coaches shows, etc. it is going to cost $79.95/year or $8.95/month. It's been nice having all that content for free this year. I assume this money is all going to fund the site or is this another money making idea of JPs?
I think this may be going a little too far. If other teams in the Big 12/NCAA are doing this and we aren't then I understand. I hope we're not the ones setting the precedent. http://www.cyclones.com/ViewArticle....&ATCLID=697421 -

Is it really wrong to charge for things like webcasts of events that people should be buying tickets for? I can't really say it is.

A lot of others schools have a subscription for their website also. We are just catching up to what is currently being done at many other places. I expected it and really have no problem with it.

Why is that going to far? ISU doesn't benefit from the TV contract in Big 12 in either dollars compared to Big 10 or availability compared to Big 12 South teams. Seems to me to be a great way to fund making more games available to more fans.
If we are first even better. If the demand is there it will be successful and continue if not it will go away. I like the progressive thinking.

If other schools charge for these things, then I understand the move. It is a great money making initiative -- never argued with that.

I would just like to know where have you been? Not saying that your right or wrong, but this isn't new news.
It's just anything video related from my understanding that you have to pay for. Otherwise the text versions are all available free of charge.

I think this is a great idea for people out of state.

Just wondered if anyone happened to miss this:
"The Clone Zone brings Iowa State fans closer to the action than ever before with premium content never previously made available."

Sorry, I hadn't heard an announcement that Cyclones.com is moving to a subsription based service. I watched Clone Zone video content all season long without a subscription. Just went to the website today and saw it on the front page. When was the announcement made that I missed???
Actually, the press release is dated today. Was there a story out earlier in the year???

Re: Clone Zone??? -- Pollard has gone to far
The announcement that this would be a premium service was made at the introduction of the Clone Zone. Pollard said at its creation that it would become a subscription service. The past few months have only been offered as a "free trial" to show people what would be on there. It was never meant to be free forever, and it is a good way to make a little extra money.

Re: Clone Zone??? -- Pollard has gone to far
I must admit I said something on the line of having webcast available to all cyclone fans before the football season started. JP did say in his email that they were already thinking about that. I guess I am not surprised to see this in action.
I love the idea of webcasting. However, JP needs to make sure we get more television coverage so high school kids and people without web connection can enjoy watching cyclone sports. The idea is to sell ISU athletics to general public. I doubt webcasting will help much in that regard. Seriously, how many high school kids from out of state will spend the dollar to see ISU football online? I fear ISU athletic department will stop at this and will not attract more media coverage saying they have done enough already..
