Chizik does not retain any assistants
Gotta feel for those guys, I thought he would keep a couple for in state recruiting connections.

Do you have a link to this?

Re: Chizek does not retain any assistants
I do feel for those guys, but it is the way of college athletics. Like Chizik said in his press conference, the assistants will make or break a coach.

I heard Skladany was going to Central Florida. Great for him! I'm not real surprised they aren't keeping anyone. I'm not sure what the percentage is, but I'm not sure assistants are retained very often. -
Re: Chizek does not retain any assistants
Well they look at this era as its own, and it is time to move past and start over really. So to keep anyone for the McCarney era wouldn't really make sense.
It seems rediculas, but I think valid. You get a new head coach and allow him to hire his own NEW staff.

Hopefully they will land on their feet with another program. Sometimes it just seems better and cleaner to start over 100% fresh.

Re: Chizek does not retain any assistants
I'm glad not because I was an anti-Mac guy. I was actually a Mac backer, but if you're changing directions then let's completely change.
This will allow Chizik to bring in all his own guys. Mac's guys were most likely very loyal to him. That's how Mac was. A new cast just rids any potential problems.

Re: Chizek does not retain any assistants
I have to agree that when you make a move for a new direction, it really has to be all or nothing. I think Alford was a decent recruiter but with the last place recruiting class in the Big XII the past three years, you really have to wonder if it did any good. A new guy comes in and he deserves to pick his guys since he's ultimately responsible for what happens. As he said, the assistants determine your fate in a very short amount of time.
A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player. -

I'm glad he's not retaining any. We need a fresh start, and it really doesn't surprise me at all. I don't know why you're upset.

Re: Chizek does not retain any assistants
Is the strength and conditioning guy sticking around? From what i heard he was really good.

Re: Chizik does not retain any assistants
It wouldn't really make much sense for Cheezit to keep any of the old assistants, since they were part of an unsuccessful administration. Of course he could keep some people around if they meshed with his way of doing things and he thought they were good, but Cheezit has to be able to get the guys he wants in there.

I'm not sure what to think, but the strength coaches are still listed on the coaches page. http://www.cyclones.com/SportSelect....53&SPSID=48392 -
Re: Chizik does not retain any assistants
These guys that get into the coaching business know the routine. Changing jobs on a regular basis is part of it...sometimes at your choice and sometimes at someone else's choice.
Frankly, these guys weren't getting the job done as a unit...so let's get some new blood in there.
As for retaining someone to keep recruiting ties in Iowa...it looks like the past staff was asleep at the switch relative to recruiting. I have no inside scoop, but it may be that Chizik is going to hire a high profile Iowa HS coach for one of the position coaching slots. Or he may just get his new non-Iowa based staff out there to press the flesh with the HS coaches in Iowa. I just hope we can get a strong pipeline of talent coming from Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.
