Watching Miami's hiring
What's everyone think of Miami's coaching search. I'm looking at the names being thrown around and thinking we came out smelling like roses in our search. Granted the Miami job is a different beast.

Re: Watching Miami's hiring
Miami and Alabama.....who the hell would ever want to coach at those places? Astronomical, unfathomable expectations. Coker won a freaking NC for crying out loud! Shula went 10-2 with Bama last year! Doing either of those would damn near get you a lifetime contract here at ISU.
Bama fans and supporters need to realize that Bear Bryant is gone. He isn't coming back. They aren't the national power they THINK they are. Bad seasons happen to every program, and 6-6 isn't horrible, especially in the conference they're in.
The only way I can think of anyone wanting to coach at either place is if they can negotiate a contract with a HUGE buyout....go down there, do your best to win some games, inevitably get canned, even if you win a NC, a few years later....then kick back and live off the buyout.

Re: Watching Miami's hiring
Both programs have tradition and money would should make them attractive.
I just got to thinking my thought when Kosar is being mentioned as a serious candidate. A guy with ZERO (I mean ZERO) coaching experience of any kind.

Re: Watching Miami's hiring
Coker got fired for the lack of discipline which he did decent with up until the fight, it is a big problem at MIAMI, I understand that one, but Shula was a stupid firing! Miami needs someone to take control and have a no nonsense type of attitude and that can put up with that ****ing dumb shalala lady who let those players get off, for the most part!

Re: Watching Miami's hiring
The cool thing about some good coaching spots opening, is to sit back and watch them fight over the few qualified people out there. Drives the money up and the quality isn't usually worth it!
I agree about Shula...dumb to fire him just for that.
Makes me thankful that Chizik was scooped up....

I'm proud of Schiano (sp?) for sticking with Rutgers as well.

Re: Watching Miami's hiring
I'm not sure Miami is that great of a job. It's hard to explain exactly what I mean but there are a lot of negatives that go along with the positives. You get most of the best Florida talent but they spend a lot of time with their eyes to the pros. I think it might have been Jason Whitlock that wrote about how hard it is to coach kids when you've got so many NFL players hanging around all the time talking about how much money they're making. I think it takes a certain type of coach to succeed in that atmosphere and a lot of them are smart enough to realize that.

Re: Watching Miami's hiring
Miami is a crap job.
If you want discipline in the program, you'd have to kick about 84 guys off the team.
The new coach is going to be given about 7 minutes to win it all. If he doesn't, they'll start flying banners above the stadium demanding your firing.
One of my Wisconsin buddies heard that Bielema was going to interview there. I don't see it, but he did recruit that area for most of his short career. Seems like bull, though. He's got something pretty good going in Wiscy.

Re: Watching Miami's hiring
Are you serious??? Miami is a crap job? You have one of the two most fertile recruiting bases in your COUNTY. They have won how many National Championships? A crap job was Rutgers befor Shiano (sp?). A crap job was/is Baylor....not Miami.

Re: Watching Miami's hiring
There's no doubt there's talent down there and that's probably why I think it's a bad job. There's absolutely no reason why they shouldn't win it all every single year. It's more about managing egos than X's and O's.
Most of the kids are so talented that they've never been disciplined or even coached for that matter. The egos are ridiculous (see their two NFL TE's).
I would honestly rather coach at Iowa State than Miami, but then again, I'm biased. Hell, I'd rather coach at nearly anywhere than there.
When Luther Campbell is one of your bigger boosters (remember him from the foul mouthed 2-Live Crew?), I'll pass.

Re: Watching Miami's hiring
Randy Shannon is a good hire, they prolly settled a little bit, but it is just about as good a hire as they were going to get given their status right now! He has the credentials, he knows the players, right now, I hope he is very succesful. I won't make fun of their search over our search until I see results from Chizik and no results from Shannon

Re: Watching Miami's hiring
As far as I know, Rodriguez isn't a for sure to go to Bama yet. It was reported on ESPN, but taken back and RRod has made statements that he hasn't even seen a contract yet.
Spurrier used Bama to get himself a $500k raise from South Carolina a couple weeks ago, what a tool.

Re: Watching Miami's hiring
I seriously wonder of we will end up getting a better coach than both Miami and Alabama.
Will be interesting to see how it plays out.
