Hiring processes
While a few people negatively critiqued Jamie Pollard for keeping his cards close to the vest (ok, inside his vest) on the hiring process of Chizik, Miami and Alabama appear to be conducting theirs in the open, and I have to tell you, I like the way Pollard did it much better.
Miami and Alabama are both beginning to look like beggars and fools, and if Rodriquez turns them both down, which he very well may do, Miami is on at best their 3rd choice, and I'm not sure who either will turn to next.
It reminds me of the circus surrounding VanDevelde's hiring of Morgan
Side note to Jeremy, or anyone else in the know-why does the top of my screen still display "Iowa State Introduces Brian Kelly"?

Re: Hiring processes
I think that is exactly why JP did it the way he did. It is not only professional publicly, but professional internaly. You dont give yourself much rep when you throw yourself out there like that and keep getting rejected.

83 Clone you need to go to the bottom left corner and update your viewer... At least i think!

Re: Hiring processes
Hey 83 Clone. Nice analysis. I personnally loved every minute of JP's endeavor. We didn't know and shouldn't have known what was transpiring. Colleges get embarassed quickly when their 3rd and 4th publicized pick has turned them down. Look at the fiasco at Nebraska surrounding the hire of Callahan. Nice work Pollard.

Re: Hiring processes
Who has critiqued Pollard on the hiring process? I've read everything I can get my eyes on about it and I haven't seen anyone write anything other than praise.

Re: Hiring processes
Prior to Mac leaving, what is happening at Miami and Alabama is exactly what I feared would happen at Iowa State. Pollard did an outstanding job in every aspect of both major coaching searches. Miami just promoted an assistant if the rumors are true. I would think if I were a Miami fan, after all that, I would really be ******. -
Re: Hiring processes
Some fans were saying, "We need a committe". The more people that get involved in the search, the harder it is to stop leaks. It sounds like the only people that new the direction of the search was: Pres. Geofferoy, Jamie Pollard, David Harris, Deloss Dodds, and Mac Brown.

Re: Hiring processes
Nice observation...JP was very professional and kept us all guessing. It was an interesting process, but made for too much computer time on this site! Whew!

Re: Hiring processes
I loved the way JP did it. Now it may not have mattered since he was able to land Chizik but it could have been bad like the Morgan hiring. We had coaches from Tennessee Tech(?) turning us down publicly...
If JP wasn't able to get his 1st, 2nd, 3rd choice...no one but a few people would have known it.

Re: Hiring processes
What's happening in Miami and Alabama is similar to what happend at Nebraska. Fans of those programs were used to being the top of the heep almost all the time. Unfortunatly, the game has changed and "living" in the top 10 is very difficult in todays game.
Alabama fans have never been able to get past the dominance they had under Bryant. They expect dominance but it is hard to deliver these days making their patience for coaches very short.
Nebraska had difficulty getting anyone to come to Linclon because the fan and school expectations were too high.
Iowa is now starting to suffer from the same problem. Fan expectations are higher then the program can realistically deliver EVERY year.

Re: Hiring processes
IMO, the way JP conducted the search is the only way to go in today's world. Less is more in regards to the number of people involved. Along with Miami & Alabama searches as previously mentioned, look what is happening with the Committee at EIU in their attempts to find a new President. >$200k spent and they don't even have any finalsts, let alone a new Pres.

Re: Hiring processes
My opinion of coaching search committees:
The only reason you need a committee is if no one wants responsibility for the hire.
