Most of us here are already Wesley Johnson fans. I don't know if anyone has posted this yet, but I keep seeing shades of Scotty Pippen every time I see Wesley play. And hopefully it will only get better.

I can definitely see the comparison. I think it really helped Wesley that until the past couple of years he played guard because he was only like 6'3". He has really good ball handling for his size. If he puts on 10-15 lbs of muscle he will be first team All Big 12 before he graduates.

Come on now. Scottie Pippen???? Just like Corey Mcintosh reminds me of AI, Mike Taylor reminds me of Josh Howard, Rahshon Clark reminds me of Shawn Marion, Ross Marsden reminds me of Andrew Bogut, Jiri Hubalek is the second coming of Dirk Nowitzki, and Dodie Dunson is the next Dwayne Wade.

I am a huge Wes fan but I agree with arganbright....Wes is already a stud and has enormous potential at the college level and if he gets bigger and develops more (which he most definitely will) he could even be a good role player in the NBA. But Scottie? Wes is easily my favorite player and I absolutely love watching him play and grow but even up to his potential I don't see him being the FOURTH best player on the 90's Bulls. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a Pippen here especially with Brackins coming, but I just don't see it.
I hope this doesn't give me negative rep :) I honestly can't say a bad thing about Wes.........

Goodnight.....did the original post say anything about Wes being as good as Scottie?? The first time I watched Wes play I thought to myself....man he kind of looks like Scottie Pippen out there. Meaning his frame and the way he moves on the court.
Hey Jon, The Nadas were awesome last weekend. I think we're headed to People's next Fri. to see them again. Amy is turning into a groupie. RS

THANK you! I had to laugh when I saw this topic, and I couldn't quite place who Wesley reminded me of. He's going to be a key player for us the next four years.

Hasbeen,
That's what I was referring to; frame, size and how he moves ... looks like Pippen to me. Also, I've seen a few fade-aways by Wesley ... man, looks just like Pippen. One other thing. I remember when the Bulls drafted Scotty and people said ... what? Pippen was from Ark State a known BBall hotbed. Not. Just like Wesley, when we got him people said, what? ... I thought the other Johnson was the highly ranked player. So as I said, I like the Scotty Pippen comparo and hope it pans out and Wesley gets better and better. I really like his presence on the court. Never gets flustered or upset. Seems to be in control and knows whats going on and why. And just a freshman to boot. Here's to 4 more years of Scotty ... sorry, Wesley.

I think he's showing some awesome potential so far. I think by the time he graduates his development will be a great indicator of Gmac coaching skills.

Pippen was over-rated. Putting him in the top 50 of all time was a joke.

Pippen has 6 Championship rings and career averages of 16.1 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 5.2 apg, 1.96 spg, .8 bpg, and shooting percentags of .473 fg, .326 3pt, .704 ft. That list came out sometime around the 2000 season right? That's a pretty well-rounded stat line for a 6-7 225lb swingman. Take out his last 5 seasons which he was injured a lot and not nearly the player he was in his prime that earned him that honor and those career numbers are probably slightly higher. Playing next to Jordan certainly helped but I'm not sure the Bull win 6 titles without both Jordan and Pippen.
Also read the notes in his player bio: http://www.nba.com/playerfile/scottie_pippen/index.html 40th all time in points, 4th in steals, 16th in assists, 2 olympic gold medals, there are a lot of accolades he piled up in his career.
I agree, I don't like making comparisions of players to someone in the NBA. Wesley looks like he's going to be one heck of a player for us.

Wes Johnson is the closest thing to NBA caliber on our entire team. I don't see anyone else having that potential. Wesley has the length, ball handling, rebounding presence, etc. He is only a frosh. He'll add weight and only get better.

Wesley Johnson has super potential. He seems to be our best player right now and if he gets in the weight room he could really be something.
As for Pippen...he was a nice player but you take away MJ (arguably the best player of all time) and Pippen was just an average player. Having a bunch of championship rings means nothing...so do Steve Kerr, Luc Longley, and Bill Wennington! People always say that MJ might not have gotten as many rings without Pippen but I would take my chances with MJ and no Pippen.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.
