Alford is a goner !

I heard from a Hawk fan that if Alford cannot get the fans to start supporting the team, and come together that Alford's contract will be bought out at the end of the year, and they will replace Alford. I was kind of hoping that Alford would stick around for awhile longer . lol !

Obviously we Cyclone fans need to start buying Hawk tickets and filling up Carver. Anything to save his job. Although I'm afraid of the rashes I might get from the black polyester.

Not sure he is that great for ISU...he's beaten us like 7 out of the last 11 games. But I would agree that a new coach is a threat of doing better.

If Alford was canned it might help us get Emmanuel Negedu from Brewster. They are high on his list as well.

He just got an extension (I think it was only 1 year though) this summer. I find it hard to believe he will be fired this year...his contract goes through like 2010.

It may happen but if his job was even remotely in jeopardy before the season, the school wouldn't have even considered an extension.

Didn't Dan get an extension the year before he was canned? Remember they have a brand new AD as well. They lost at home to UNI and at Drake by 16, he's gone unless they go nuts in the big 10 and make the tourney again.

Alford has only coached 9 games aginst ISU while at Iowa, and he has only won 5 of them.

With that thought process, our coach should be canned too for losing to both Drake and UNI.

Alford has been on thin ice for a few years now. Fortunately for us and sadly for Iowa fans - last year likely bought him a year or two on free pass - even with the early exit in the tournament.

I tend to agree with that, but Iowa does have a new AD this year, and he might go the same route that Pollard did with Morgan.

I was assuming people would take into account that this is Alford's ninth year and McDermott's first, a rebuilding year for ISU and not for Iowa. Maybe that was a bad assumption. Should I lay out all my thoughts and not assume a basic knowledge of the situation?
