Well, I don't know much, and I don't really like how Jiri is playing. However, I love GMac. And he's smarter than me, and he works with Jiri in practice. So you know what? If GMac puts him in the game, then we're better with him in there for whatever reason than we are with him on the bench. Too bad it may end up that Jiri's primary purpose is to give CJ, WJ, & RM a breather.
PLUS he's a very good basketball player. I don't really know much--so perhaps he's not quite Big 12 caliber, or perhaps GMac's system doesn't play to his strengths etc. etc. etc. And I've heard that he is great in practice but somehow doesn't hit his shots in a game.
Finally--don't make me go find all those old posts about how much we couldn't wait for Jiri's 6 game suspension to be over!

no hatin' on Jiri, but some of his decisions seriously hurt our momentum late in the game last night....i think his minutes can still help us though

Jiri a very good basketball player? Is that what you just said? I'm asking for clarification - as I want to be sure you were referring to Jiri. If so, you're sorely mistaken.
Yes, we all wanted him back - as we thought G-Mac would return Jiri into the guy we saw early in the season last year. Gutty, hustled, played tough under the hoop, etc.
We've yet to see that guy - at all.

I would not care of his offense never came back. If he didn't take shots and just played average defense under the basket, I would praise him!

Some people on this site bash others for poking fun at Wayne Morgan or Aaron Agnew but it's okay to poke fun at our current players??
Seems some are a little hypocritical...

Can you expand upon this? I really don't remember Jiri playing more than a minute or two late in the game. He came in when Cory Johnson picked up his fourth foul, Oden made two free throws to push it to 8 with less than two minutes left. The only time I remember him touching the ball when he was in was to shoot a wide open three (the right shot).
So what did he do that caused you to think he seriously hurt our momentum. I think our momentum was gone by the time he game in.

What decisions? He didn't play in the second half until the last 2 minutes I think. The momentum was lost by that point. He airballed an open three at a time when that was our only hope.

No kidding? I'm not a fan of the way Jiri is playing and its really making me mad that people post some idiotic comments that force me to defend the guy. I might as well say that Brock Jacobson's decision making really cost us the game.

I think it's not so much that Jiri's play directly hurt us in the game - as much of - we wish Jiri would play better - so he could get more minutes - giving us the depth we need. Especially against a team like Ohio State.
And when Jiri is in, he continues to make those silly mistakes that are all mental. Clearly, G-Mac has had enough of Jiri's antics.
I just wish Jiri would go back to being the player he was early last year.

I don't hate the guy, just wish he would show improvement like the rest of the team has. He has gone in the other direction and it is causing him to lose minutes. I hope he figures it out.

Here is my guess.
Obviously Jiri isn't getting things yet. We all have heard how complicated things are in Mac's system. It took Taylor up to the 12th game to figure things out pretty well. Corey Johnson looked lost early on defensively this season but he's figuring things out. I would imagine the language issues have something to do with Jiri's development. Hopefully he catches on eventually, whether it is this year or next.

To me it's not necessarily the decisions that he is making. I thought that the 3 he shot was the right call at that point. It's the lethargic attitude that drives me nuts. Some of it is stuff that never shows up in the stats too. Like you'll see a loose ball that is up for grabs and I'll be wondering why the heck Jiri just stood there and watched instead of getting on the floor after it. Or he'll be in position to grab a rebound and score and either lets somebody step in front or will pull the ball down and have it knocked away before he can grab it. I guess last night I was just really excited about how hard everybody else was competing, and although I didn't disagree with a lot of actual decisions that Jiri made I was ticked off about the lack of effort (or at least the perceived lack of effort) that he was giving.

Seems some are a little hypocritical... And you make a very solid point here.
I think we all had high expectations for Jiri under G-Mac and are experiencing a sever letdown.
