Pollard named Iowa Sportsman of the year by Keith Murphy

Keith Murphy of WHO-TV was doing an Iowa year in-review of sports Wend. evening on Deace in the Afternoon on WHO-Radio. When asked who Sportsman of the year was, with no hesitation he said that it has to be Jamie Pollard.

"If it was easy, someone else would have done it already." ISU Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard

I could make a case for Dan McC on his exit also. Very gracious and upbeat.

EIU is the other Okoboji University for serious students and home of Captain Kirk who pilots the Enterprise on its Trek through the Universe for finding his next great job. Captain, beware of your Superbowl.

Pollard is willing to take a risk to move ISU up the ladder..Mac did well by ISU. Both are deserving.

I have always loved Keith Murphy. The guy had a chance a while back to move to Bristol, CT to be on SportsCenter but turned it down b/c he thought West DM was a better area to raise his family. Plus there's no obvious anti-Cyclone bias with him. He was always a joy to watch while I was at ISU!

I think that is the sports story of the year. Mac was tenured as the coach here, and I think that a lot of people were surprised that JP had the backbone (or clout) to be able to get him to resign. Granted the performance on the field helped him to get that clout, but it is still hard to believe that there will be a new coach leading us on to the field come Fall.

But in terms of Sports figure of the year it has to be Jamie. In one years time he has totally remade the athletic department in his image. Time will tell whether or not success will follow, but it is a VERY exciting time to be a Cyclone fan. It has been a LONG time since you could say that.
