I was listening to Cotlar this morning on my way to work (about 7:25-7:35), and that was about THE WORST radio I have ever heard...I've heard some awful radio on Jim Rome before but this takes the cake.
He had some guy on there with him (Mark) talking about how he was going to all these bowl games (including the BCS title game) and how he was looking forward to it but he didn't know one damn team playing in the game.
Why put someone on a sports radio show that literally is dumb when it comes to sports??? Unless I'm missing something here and it was really a joke.
God that was bad. Bad enough for me to need to vent about it. | | |

Don't forget him trying to sing on the radio. That was when I was ready to turn it off. I can handle listening to the show, but like you said, put guests on the know SPORTS!

The only thing I got out of that segment was a flashback to how funny the show "WKRP in Cincinnatti" was.

Today, still wanted by BCS teams, he survives as a coach of fortune. If you have a problem - if no one else can help - and if you can find him- maybe you can hire: Gene Chizik.

This past Monday when Cotlar had John Walters on, he spent the first half of the segment talking about how great the Missouri Valley Conference is.

I guess I'm not sure how a guy like that gets a show. Geesk. We could probably put a couple of us on there and do a better job.

No one cares about Drake" or something to that effect.
I have no problem with it but it makes him look kinda silly. Especially when talking to JW, Rob Howe, etc.
PS. They are having a great season. Unfortunately, a great season is a potential NIT birth.

Cotlar is the radio announcer for the Bulldogs. He is the "voice" of the Bulldogs like Walters is for ISU. Of course he is going to talk a lot about Drake.

And as crummy as this one felt, Cyclone fans, it could be a lot worse. You could be a Hawkeye. - Sean Keeler (imagine that, actually quoting Keeler!)

I didn't realize that he is the official voice now. That makes more sense.
But the point still stands...don't spend 5 of the 10 minutes with JW talking about Drake or the MVC.

I would not call him up and complain to him about it, he will just say, "I want to talk about winning programs" I used to think he was a Hawk Squawker, not he is a Bulldog BullS$%ter.
*note - I have nothing against the bulldogs and would like to see them do good. just remember what dog spells backwards.

I know Cotlar is not the greatest host in the world but you can only screen callers so much. SoundOff on Sunday nights gets bad callers too, it's just the nature of the business.

A caller I can understand.

Not sure if it was yesterday or Tuesday, but Cotlar was having trouble getting anybody to call in for his "What's Your Beef" segment. Then, some guy calls, and has a beef with Gary Barta (IA AD), and Cotlar just went off on the caller, saying Barta has done everything expected of him so far, etc...Maybe more people would call in and say what their beef is if the host didn't bash every word they said.

Cotlar is a dope who doesn't have an opinion on anything. How many times a day does he uses the line "we just don't know" or "who knows what to expect", etc. Grow a pair and have an opinion.
How the hell he had a national show (how many times a week does he drop that little nugget?) is beyond me.
