Next years recruits
Does anyone know who we are bringing in next year? I have been having trouble locating any info.
Thanks

Re: Next years recruits
If you're talking about basketball, we have a great recruiting class coming in. Diante Garrett, point guard, from Milwaukee who some consider best player in state of Wisconsin. Craig Brackins, power forward, who some have listed as 17th best player in country. Charles Boozer, guard, who is Carlos Boozer's brother. And Lucca Staiger, guard, a German who can really shoot the three pointer.

Re: Next years recruits
Also realize that in college wrestling EVERYONE gets redshirted. So the people that have been mentioned that are coming in next year will not wrestle until 2008-2009.
Even Cael was red-shirted his freshman year and a little know fact is that he did have a loss during that year but because he was wrestling unattached it does not count to his collegiate record.
GO STATE!

GO STATE! Not everyone redshirts. Joe Curran did not redshirt his initial freshman season because of a lack of depth in our upper weights. He is now redshirting. A freshman will redshirt unless severely needed. -

GO STATE! Oh yeah, and if memory serves me correctly, the loss you speak of was to an OU wrestler by the name of David Kjelgaard, who was from Lewis Central High School of Council Bluffs, Iowa. It was at an Open Tournament. Correct me if I am wrong!

Sounds about right to me. I didnt remember the exact person he wrestled but it would have to have been in an open tournament.

Re: Next years recruits
I was just looking at the roster and I like who we have as true freshman right now because they will help out in one of our weakest weight this year at 141. The person that could really help there is T.J. Sebolt.
The other thing that I like about the true freshman is that we have a lot of different people that could fill in the open weight next year at 165 by the graduating Travis Paulson. Those possible replacements include true freshman, Jonathan Reader, Mitch Artist, and Todd Becker.
The weight that right now concerns me the most is 157 because we dont have a clear replacement for Trent Paulson

Re: Next years recruits
141 is not a weak weight, we have a very capable wrestler in Mitch Mueller at that weight. He is rated in all polls I believe.
For 157: It is said Cyler Sanderson could grow into the spot but I am unsure of that. If Cyler moved up it would make room for Sebolt to slip into the lineup if Mueller bumped up as well.
Basically it could look like this:
125 - Fanthrope (SO)
133 - Gallick (SO)
141 - Sebolt (RS FR)
149 - Mueller (SO)
157 - Sanderson (SO)
165 - Reader (RS FR)
174 - Bertolino (SR)
184 - Curran (SO)
197 - Varner (SO)
HWT - Zabriskie (SO)
Curran and Varner are slightly interchangable. If Kist makes the lineup next year, Fanthorpe could bump up successfully and Sebolt might miss the lineup. Who knows!?! But it is fun to speculate!

I watched this guy wrestle a few times in high school and he is an animal. He would really just toy with his opponents sometimes. He wrestled at the lower weights in high school and it will be something to see how he wrestles with and extra 15 pounds on or so. Hopefully he'll dominate college like he did in high school although most college wrestlers do dominate hs.

Re: Next years recruits
I realize that redshirting is the norm. My question is, what is Wren status? He comes with some pretty good credentials but is he coming in as a freshmen? With him coming from Northern MI USOEC I'm not sure what that means to his status. He may be able to help right away.
As far as next year, I think Reader at 165 is going to be stud. It will be interesting at 141 because Mueller was very highly touted and is only expected to get better. The wrestle-offs will be exciting next year. It will be nice to have some depth...we haven't had that in some time.

Re: Next years recruits
Wren worked out at the Olympic training center for awhile in Michigan working on greco and freestyle. ISU pursued him out of HS, I am unsure what he did the last year but I think his eligibility is intact.
