Assistants Speculation

It's been quiet on coach hiring for a while. Might we speculate that the OL coach and RB coach are important spots so GC hasn't put those on the back burner? Might we then speculate that the likely hires are with an NFL team or a bowl team? If so, we should hear something in the next week.

i would say yes...the coaches GC has in mind have other obligations right now, whether it be nfl or bowl teams.

possibly some auburn guys after they whoop the huskers on new years day? no rumor source here...just a random thought i had.

We have a damn O-Line coach, it is McFarland!

McFarland has been an O-line coach and may have filled both O-line and the coordinator spots at the same time, but, have you seen a statement indicating he would do that here?

McFarland will be the O-Line Coach/Offensive Coordinator.

Bolt is the Defensive Coordianator/Linebackers coach.

Fitch is the quarterbacks coach and may(?) be the passing game coordinator.

Pelton is the defensive line coach.

We have hired a wide receivers coach and a defensive back coach. Both names escape me at this time.(Raney is the db coach, and Rodgers is the WR coach - looked it up on Cyclones.com)

Mac Brown has been quoted as saying a graduate assistant from Texas, who is handling the linebackers for the bowl game, Jeff Koonts, will be going to Ames. He has not been announced by ISU. He could be LB, Safety or perhaps moving to offense if he is looking at becoming a head coach some day.

That leave two coaches to hire - if the information on Koonts is correct. We have no one identified as a RB coach or TE coach. It is also possible (likely?) that the organization of Chizik's staff will be different than Mac's staff.

The names that I have heard for the other coaches come from a premium site, so I don't feel I should share. It is just speculation, anyway.

I got the Mack Brown story on Koonts from a premium site, but it was linked to a free site so I don't think I am violating any agreement.

Chizik has been quoted as saying McFarland is the best O-Line coach in the country, I think that is evidence enough that McFarland is the O-Line coach
