Looks like Ferentz is again in the forrunning of the Steeles-Remember Squawkers there is no crying in football- Bernsteine as a Hawk and they will win -who cares

Last week Ferentz came out and said he is not interested in the Pittsburgh job and that he is happy where he's at.

I don't think Iowa fans have much to worry about there.

My head coach told us the same thing back in college. A week later, the AD called a players meeting where he broke the news to us about how our coach who was staying accepted a position at a bigger school.

Never say never!

Lets see, high profile NFL job or a middle of the pack Big 10 job,,,Hmmmmm?

Why would he want to go to the "Not for Long" and make the same amount of money where the pressure is going to be way more and the athletes are harder to tame?
His schedule is really favorable the next 2 years also which means he can have an average team and over acheive. Then they will over, over achieve b/c the bowls have a hard on for Iowa Fans. That is why I wish the B10 would have had 3 more teams with a heart beat this year and Michigan would of lost twice. They would have bumped down to the Motor City or Not go to a bowl at all. (See Kansas)
I just want them to taste a few years of crappy/no bowls so then people will realize that it is really easy to travel to great bowl games. I understand they travel well, but 5 years a crap would really fix their fan base IMO.

Another year or two of 7-5 and 6-6 type seasons will either quell those NFL rumors - or he'll take a leap to an NFL team desperately in need of a coach - and a pay cut.

Today, why would he leave? He's getting paid a ton and likely would not earn much more to move up. The way college programs are paying the head coaches - it makes it much easier for them when making that decision.

Why would he go to the Steelers? Let's see, from the area, traditional powerhouse franchise, PLUS the Rooneys are extremely loyal to their coaches. Chuck Knoll and Bill Cowher in the last 30 years. It's a match made in heaven and hawkfan knows it.

I think if Ferentz were to leave for the NFL, the Steelers would be the organization that could lure him away. I still don't think he will leave, same reasons as everyone else... But the Hawks should worry a little about the Steelers!

What about a 6-7 season like this one is going to turn out to be?

I think he would leave to test his game at the highest level. He may also be able to get a little more money but I know if i had a chance to work for the top company in my profession for equal or a little more money, the question is Why wouldn't I?

If he fails, just get back into the college ranks.

There are many reasons he should jump at the chance. A chance to coach one of the most storied franchises in sports history, would make more or equal than he made at Iowa, wouldn't have to recruit and could focus on coaching only. No I-Club summer outings and that kind of stuff. If he were offered the Steelers job I think he would be out of Iowa City very quickly.

Not every guy gets that chance - fail in the NFL and go back to college. Well, he could get a college job - yet after leaving Iowa on a not-so-hot note and failing in the NFL (assumed) - how much would anyone pay him?

Right now it's a huge risk he'd take moving up. It wouldn't have been so bad if he would have taken off a couple years ago. Having the disappointing seasons for the last 2 years has not helped his resume at all.

I think he has made enough money to date that he can quit working if he fails.

I HATE the Hawks, but if Ferentz went to the NFL, I'd root for him to succeed. He seems like a good guy, and a class act. Who knows, maybe he'd take Dan Mac with him as D Coordinator?

I hate the Hawks.

I like coach Ferentz.

Hawks have a 6-7 record this year.

Coach Ferentz is better of leaving a mediocre team like the Hawks this year.

I will root for any team he coaches in the professional level and I think everyone in Iowa will. I just don't like him coaching Iowa any more. He needs more challenge, more reputation than mediocre stats.

His team is mediocre at best this year. It wasn't much better last year. Another year or two of this could really damage his stock in the eyes of an NFL team. If he has any intentions of moving to the next level, I would get out now while the opportunity is still there.

Of course I'm just a Clone fan hoping to see him leave because I don't think the Hawks could get anyone better. Now Alford, there is a coach I want to see at EIU for a long time.
