I like the hires..i was a little unsure about the highschool hire, but it could possibly open up a lot of recruiting doors in alabama which has a lot of good talent throughout the state!!
Have we hired a running back coach yet??? I wonder where he is looking for this position?
The article didn't say what the new coaches' assignments would be, but they are once again very young up-and-comers. I get the feeling that Coach Chizik likes to hire people who remind him of himself 10 years ago.
Koonz is a very, very young coach! Looks like he could play for the team, much less coach them!
Haven't heard anything about a running back coach, but I do know a good one available. Kirby Wilson (Mac's first running back coach) is excellent. He was on the staff at the Arizona Cardinals last season.
An Auburn poster on one of the free boards believes that Koonz is going to coach the running backs. I didn't think that made much sense as he was coaching linebackers before, but the press release does say that Chizik hired him to the offensive staff.
These hires look good, you got to love a young energetic staff. I am sure they all have higher ambitions and will work very hard here at ISU.
I hope Chizik gets around to hiring some players soon also. You have to be impressed so far as to who he has brought on board.
Will he continue to hire from Texas staff.....?
I know Kirby's sister-in-law. He was contacted when Mac was fired but nothing came of it. If Chizik inquires, I'll hear about it.
Does anyone know the connection with Pearson? I'm curious how a highschool coach from far far away even got on the radar. I suspect Bolt may know him - maybe GC too from his Auburn days. But, what makes this hs coach standout from all others? He may be either a great teacher or have some unique contacts.
My guess is hes just a good high school coach who is getting his foot into the door for bigger and better things. They all have to come from somewhere.
