Big 10 does it again

Year in and year out, how can the Big 10 prove to be one of the most overrated conferences in football? The Big 10 has EVERY advantage over EVERY conference. They have the largest population base, the BEST TV contracts and the BEST bowl package of any conference yet every year they stink outside of conference when they play decent teams, especially in Bowl games.

Everyone said this season that Michigan and Ohio St were the best teams in the country, tell me this, who did they beat? Ohio St. beat Texas and they had a down season. Michigan beat a HIGHLY OVERRATED Notre Dame team. I get so sick of hearing about how great the Big 10. They should be, but just aren't.

Not to mention that there is 11 teams in the conference.....great education system up there :)

I've said this before: The Big 10 is the Notre Dame of football conferences. They have an agreement with ESPN and they have a huge number of fans, so there is a lot of coverage of the teams and they get overexposed, causing people to think they are better than they are.

This is exactly why I didn't want to see a Mich-OSU rematch. Honestly, OSU and Mich didn't play anybody all year, haven't played forever, and now they have to go against USC and Florida, two teams who went out and played a brutal schedule and somewhat navigated it.

OSU and Mich got outscored 73-32 and that's with an absolute garbage time TD by Mich.

Not to mention this shows you that all the pundints that do the rankings/even coaches don't know diddley about who should be #1. It's really a joke of a system.

The "little eleven" is OVER-RATED!! However, bowl tie-ins and TV exposure are about money...not who has the best teams. That is why the Big 10 gets great TV and Bowl deals.

That's bad...

All I can say is that I'm glad that we weren't forced to watch a OSU v. Michigan rematch. We would have been cheated out of a real national champion.

The large layoff is really killing the Big 10. No, that's not the only reason they got slaughtered in the 2 BCS games - yet to say it didn't have an impact would be naive.

For those of you that participate in rec sports - think of how well (or not so well) you play after a long hiatus.

Until the Big 10 realizes they're setting themselves up for failure and spending more time worrying about TV deals than winning titles - they'll continue to struggle in the post-season.

On Mike and Mike (ESPN radio) this morning, it was states that Jim T at tOSU was 4-0 in game where is team a 40 day+ lay off. Now a 4-1. I don't think the layoff had anything to do with it. And FL had a big lay off too. Something like 39 days. Who's to say "53 too many, 39 just right." Both teams have lay offs. The big 10 (11) is just overrated.

I think what really hurts the lil 11 is the fact that you always know what youre gonna get when you play em. They dont do anything fancy, they just play smash mouth football. Most of tehm do, thats why they always look good when playing each other, but when bowl season rolls around and they have to play proset offenses, defenses that blitzes from everywhere, and not to mention teams from the south that have endless speed player, they always get burned. It happens every year.

They won't care about the post-season struggle until it affects the TV deals and conference income. Then we'll see some concern.:Money: :Money: :Money: :Money:

I don't think that is entirely accurate. 7 teams in the Big Ten run the spread offense or a variation of it. The only teams that run a "traditional" offense are Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota. Sure Ohio State got smoked, but I don't think it was necesarily due to speed, but instead they were dominated on both the offensive and defensive lines coupled with an outstanding gameplan. Penn State and Wisconsin more than held their own against fast SEC teams.

If anything, last night's game was further evidence that a playoff system needs to be instituted in college football.

OSU was deep sixed by a better team. And now the Florida band plays on - "We are the Boys."

Agreed...the Big 10 is certainly more than a little overrated. Makes you wonder what a USC/Florida game would've looked like.

On a seperate note, the Big 12 didn't exactly light it up in the bowl season this year, and the old Big 8 would've been 0-fer.

Does anyone else think the Big 10 needs a championship game at the end of the regular season? With some major conferences not having championship games, it really penalizes some of the better conferences with championship games that could potentially have 2 BCS teams, but the late season loss kills the losers BCS ranking. Then you have a somewhat weaker conference like the Big 10 getting 2 teams in because their conference setup prevents the late season loss for one of their top 2 teams.
