This school has it going on. Last April, they claimed the NCAA National Championship for basketball and have now repeated the task in football. When was the last time this was accomplished by a school?? I'd love to see how much money they've brought in as a result of these championships.
IF they can somehow repeat in basketball they will have a VERY good shot at holding all THREE at once... THey are expecting huge things out of their baseball team this year.
I was surprised by the statement that this is only Florida's second football title. They have been near the top many times. I think there is a large element of luck to climb those last few steps in the rankings, especially with a conference championship game.
“We’ve got a pretty good football conference, and we’ve got a pretty good conference overall. We’re still walking around with our heads held high and our chest out, about that.” Paul Rhoads
Check this out-Florida is the hottest state in championships ever-
NBA Champion 2005?
MLB Champion 2003
Hockey Champion/ 2004?
NCAA Football Champion/ 2007
NCAAM Basketball Champion/ 2006
Florida Little League Championship representatives from the ?south?
all since 2000- I may have some of the years off by a little but they are all since 2000
I've been to Gainesville many times...they are also very highly ranked in "co-ed attractiveness".
By the way, Nedrick, the current championships are a result of money brought in since they became a football power under Spurrier (which started in the very late 80s / early 90s...not that long ago).
They were able to expand their stadium and improve facilities while increasing the fees to buy tickets (as well as ticket prices). I think the flow chart for this is as follows...1) hire a great coach 2) play consistent winning football 3) increase ticket fees 4) improve facilities 5) get better recruits 6) win championships.
This is precisely why I am so excited about the hiring of a great FB coach in Coach Chizik! It is the foundation for any college program!
I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.
