Mediacom: Disconnecting and E-Mail Addresses

Ok, so we're moving and while we wouldn't keep Mediacom anyway - we're going to an area outside of Grimes that doesn't have Mediacom service.

I called to set our cancellation date. I actually got right through and had no problems.

Until, I talked to them about keeping our e-mails active for 2-4 weeks. It was like I asked them to give me free service for life.

Nope. No way. Never. Etc.

The only way for this to happen would be to keep our internet account open. And being we were cable customers and canceled it too, they'll tack on an extra $10/month.

I asked about downgrading our service in order to pay less. They'll do that but we're only allowed one e-mail account. We need our others as one is business related and is as important as our personal accounts.

I asked politely if there was something we could work out - not a chance. The person I was speaking to really was quite offended I'd even asked it seems, telling me this it the way it is, etc.

Has anyone had a positive experience in canceling service and keeping their e-mail addresses? I need to know, because if so - I'll pursue this further.

Yet another horrible customer service feather to put in Mediacom's cap.

Re: Mediacom: Disconnecting and E-Mail Addresses

I make it a point to call in every 3 months with a complaint about something and then they give me a "deal"-usually half off or a couple free movie channels.

Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.

I have a friend who had good luck canceling service....they canceled their cable, and mediacom forgot to unplug it until 2 yrs later (I was there the day it finally got unplugged.....a sad event).

Re: Mediacom: Disconnecting and E-Mail Addresses

I have family who moved from Cedar Rapids to Cedar Falls in June. They cancelled Mediacom service completely prior to their move. Their Mediacom e-mail addresses still are active. They check them online via webmail to this date just to make sure no one is still trying to contact them. Not sure if that is the standard practice or if Mediacom forgot to inactivate their accounts? I hate Mediacom! McLeodUSA in Cedar Rapids is much better in my opinion!

Why should this matter to them? If you sign up for internet service, you should get the same benefits as someone who subscribes to internet AND cable. So, you have to pay more to get less? Did you talk to someone local or national? Local may help (it didn't in my case but I've heard that it can)

Re: Mediacom: Disconnecting and E-Mail Addresses

I have mediacom in NW Florida. I lost my only ABC station. Anyway, I called last night to see if they had any deals to keep me as a customer. They gave me 20% off my bill for the next 4 months. If the issue is not resolved by then, they said to call back and get the 20% for another four months. I don't know if they will do the same thing in Iowa. It is worth a shot.

Re: Mediacom: Disconnecting and E-Mail Addresses

Are you serious...why is everyone always trying to get something for nothing, and then complaining when they can't get that something for FREE!! I know I'm new to the posts, but this is rediculous. Just change your disconnect date and there won't be any problems with your accounts.

I'm glad you consider this getting something for nothing. As noted, I even tried to compromise with Mediacom to no avail.

Re: Mediacom: Disconnecting and E-Mail Addresses

I understand where your coming from, I really do, but do you think they would give you free e-mail from their service, after you canceled your service and are moving out of their coverage area...if your new home was in an area where Mediacom provided service they probably wouldn't have a problem since they would want to try to keep you as a customer. Just my opinion..

Re: Mediacom: Disconnecting and E-Mail Addresses

I never expected it for free. I did expect to be able to keep it for around a month at a rather reduced price.

Also - from Mediacom's vantage point - I wasn't disconnecting from Mediacom because I was switching out of choice and instead they were not in our new area. I'd venture they'd view that differently - instead of someone canceling just to pick up a different service.

It's not so much the fact of their options, but the way they were presented and the complete unwillingness to work with a customer of over 6 years. It's their business though.

They'll just never get mine again.

I guess we can just agree to disagree on the topic, and I hope you have better luck with your next provider...
