Re: Football season Tickets on Sale
Does anyone believe that there will not be single game tix to Iowa? Will he really allow there to be 35000 in the stadium for that game? Man, he wants us to drink the kool aid just a little too much.

Originally Posted by tec71 Does anyone believe that there will not be single game tix to Iowa? Will he really allow there to be 35000 in the stadium for that game? Man, he wants us to drink the kool aid just a little too much. Exactly. I imagine there will be about 25K tickets on sale just after Labor Day, because I'm afraid season puchases are going down.
I've praised Jamie up on side and down the other, but I have to say he's starting to cut his own throat with this one. I can't believe there will be 30K season tickets this year - despite the excitement around Chizik. 4-8 2006 campaign. Home matchups against Iowa, OU and Texas. While impressive teams, not exactly likely to help the "W" column. Anybody else laugh when you read "highly anticipated home games againt....UNI"? To now be bumped up to the 4th most expensive tickets in the conference, D1-AA opponents need to go away.
People are making good points here, justifying the hike. But it's getting hard to personally justify and swallow. For me to do what I did during Mac's bowl years, I'm paying nearly 3 times as much. And what I'm really getting tired of is the "bait and switch". This parking fee came out of nowhere. BTW, who cares about this outer lot? Anybody else in the north lots notice that in any game, save NU, that each tailgate could land their own private blimp next to them. The lots were EMPTY until 12:30, and far from full after that. A direct result of the NCC ransom last year.
So I buy into the "Pony up" and up to Cardinal. Then the tickets go up nearly $100/each. My cardinal membership means squat as they want another $50 to park, and I can't take my father and two brothers to Iowa as previous because I can't buy singles - even as a season ticket holder and donor.
And what's with the Febuary 28 deadline? You just slapped me with the $500 NCC membership that is now worthless, and you want $760 on it's heels? Hell, I'm still trying to pay for Christmas.
It's costing $180 for my wife and I to attend a football game - worse yet, she could really care less about being there.
At some point, the theory of "you get what you pay for" has to kick in. We're mortgaging the future an AWFUL lot suddenly.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go purchase some lottery tickets -
Re: Football season Tickets on Sale
I totally understand the reasoning behind this. I do. Hell, my wife and I are going to increase our donation to the NCC when we renew season tickets. I would understand gradual increases in season ticket prices, but it's tough to get too excited about this season for me because I just don't think we'll be that competitive. I honestly see three home wins on the schedule next year.

While it's not a fun opponent, it does draw a big crowd because of an in-state school. About OU, Texas and Iowa...

How is having parking cost $50 bait and switch? They told you up front this would happen. In fact, these changes were mentioned before last year was even over - when the master plan was unveiled. Pollard has been proactive and forthright in every step of the way. About Feb. 28th...
I don't this is is a hard deadline - you just need to meet it to guarantee you'll keep your same seats. About not selling Iowa tickets...
I view this as they're not selling them today. Undoubtedly they'll be on sale, we have about 55,000 we can get into the stadium and at best we'll sell 35,000 season tickets and that's a stretch. Iowa's allotment surely isn't 20,000. So I expect late summer we'll be able to buy Iowa tickets. Donors first and then to the public. I don't know this, I'm just speculating based on the numbers. About getting what you pay for...
The same can be said in the other way - you need to pay for what you get. It's the chicken and the egg theory. Which comes first? The wins or the money? IMO, they come together. We've had better success in the last 6-7 years than we did the prior time period. Also, we brought in a coach that many expect to be an improvement. We're also in need of facility upgrades in order to become more competitive. Those changes don't come for nothing, they have to be paid for.

@complainers:
We all knew this was coming in some form. Let it sink in, think about it a bit, and if it's still worth it to you... pony up :)

Re: Football season Tickets on Sale
Sorry, I meant to say that it was 4th given this years prices. A number of teams are going to have to make similar hikes to leap over us. I'd guess we'll still be in the top half when it's all said and done. A little brave given the previous campaign.
OU, Texas and Iowa - Simply coming to watch the big names come in was great when I was a student and paying $35 for a season tickets. Not exactly a selling point for $1200.
Parking. Please show me where a parking fee was laid out? Last year, it was you have to be cardinal NCC to get parking, so I go cardinal. Now it's Cardinal + $50. What would you call it? Expecially when this little change was revealed after NCC memberships were due back in.
A price hike in tickets was alluded to. I knew it was coming and was ok with it. $15 a game seems high to me. Especially when a AA game is included. A game that I'll make no doubt about - I freaking hate it. It's lose/lose, or maybe lose/so what.
Feb 28. Huh? Not a hard deadline? Well no kidding. I can renew Aug 25 if I want, but you still lose out. It's a deadline - same as ever. Pay or lose your seats. What was wrong with May 15? I know it worked better for me.
Iowa tickets. Have you got your renewal form? Take a look just above the "additional orders" section. "Single game tickets (excluding Iowa) will go on sale after August 1". From the letter accompanying the renewal "the school will NOT sell single-game tickets for the Iowa game next September in Jack Trice Stadium" Now I don't think a one of us actually believes that the AD will allow for only 35K at the biggest sell of the year. But that just makes it more of a money grab. "The only way to guarantee a ticket tothe Iowa State/Iowa game is by purchasing an ISU season ticket" - JP. So some people will actually buy into this, and then 20,000 tickets will go on sale next summer.
Cart or the horse? Well man, unfortunately I've been led down this road a few too many times. Not least of which was last year = 4-8. I've been part of campaigns that have bought several carts.
Benjay below is partially right. It needs to sink in a little. Unfortunately time isn't going to help this one and the way it's going down. I have a wife in grad school, a brother getting married in Mexico, and that just April. I was really counting on May. Fact is, like I said in the past few years, the cost has nearly tripled and the value has unfortunately gone down. I mean seriously, 500/1000 bucks and I can't park where I have for 7 years for $50/100???

Re: Football season Tickets on Sale
I understand and completely support the reasoning for the price raise - we've got a much higher football faculty budget to support, we're trying to build additions to the arenas, and hopefully we can accomplish both of those goals. I'm excited about our athletics department, and agree that we have to "put up or shut up".
However - I'm a little put off by the Varsity Club rate. I had thought that, by joining the NCC, it was supposed to cut your ticket prices in half? I was pretty sure that was even on their website. $350/2 = $175, not $195 (plus parking and the NCC membership).

Re: Football season Tickets on Sale
Actually, I expect us to still be in the bottom half of the Big 12 in gameday costs - when looking at last year's prices and estimating the increases. In fact, I think that was noted in one of the releases from ISU - that we're in the middle of the pack now. I think we'll end up 7th or 8th in costs.
The details of parking were not laid out, yet it was noted from the AD's office that changes would take place for parking in '07.
I fully expect ISU to lose donors and fans over this. I'll bet Jamie does too. It's part of the game. Hopefully in the end the program will be better for it. That's clearly the goal.
Feb. 28th is there for guaranteeing renewal seat location. No where was it stated if you renewed after, you would for sure lose your seats. It just won't be guaranteed. So the risk of being moved is up to you.
And I read the same letter you did, I just don't see how the school can't sell Iowa game tickets at some point.
We've been demanding wins now for quite a while. Time to put our money where our mouths are.

Re: Football season Tickets on Sale
quit writing books ;) My guess is that his plan is to up the deadline so he has longer to see how many season tickets we can sell, then if not successful he will turn loose the single game tickets

Re: Football season Tickets on Sale
I am very supportive of Pollard on this for a couple of reasons:
1)If Iowa fans want to go the game, they will be buying hillside or endzone season tickets. If ISU fans want to go only to the Iowa game, it's no longer an option. I think both will boost season ticket sales.
2)Fans that supported building of the stadium get their seat locations without needing to donate. One way to counteract that is to increase the ticket price as it may be the only way legally to get more money out of them.
I have already renewed my 4 season tickets, paid for the parking pass and added 2 seatbacks.

Re: Football season Tickets on Sale
Usually you want to actually create a good product and high demand before you start raising prices. When Pollard compares ticket prices in the big 12 it's kind of like comparing cars. We're the Chevy Cavalier and Texas, A&M, and OU are the Lexus LS460. The Cavalier may be ok for the money but if Chevy started charging the same as the Lexus would their be people standing in line to buy one? What if Chevy told you that by raising prices they we're going to make the Cavalier as good as the LS460?

Re: Football season Tickets on Sale
2006 Big 12 Season Ticket Prices:
A&M $375#
Texas $365
CU $355*
NU $336
OU $332
KSU $330
OSU $295*
Tech $270*
MU $266
ISU $260
Baylor $225
Kansas $225
(*OSU, CU, and Tech's prices were based on only playing 6 home games. # A&M had 8 home games)
You can bet that most of these schools will increase 5-10% for 2007 so $350 will most likey put us right in the middle somewhere.
I just upped my NCC donation and reordered my season tickets. Great sports programs aren't free!

I don't know how people can afford this anymore.. I make pretty good money and I just cannot afford to give ISU > 4% of my takehome pay for 6 saturdays in the fall.
