That is a great comment! Sad but true!

Iowa State's all time football winning percentage is 46%. We lost to EIU for 16 straight years at one point and we have yet to be a conferance power - ever.
Yet myself and thousands of others are there supporting this team year after year, please don't label us fair-weather.
I'm not taking away from those that were amazing through out the game.....it was just sad to see people care more about leaving and getting out on time than to possibly help our team get an edge late. The weather was not a factor yesterday. It only snowed an inch at the most. Sadly, that will be the best crowd we'll see this year.
I would add that most people on a cyclone message board support the team regardless of win/loss record. Some may complain more, but will still support the team.Quote:
I'm not taking anything away from you. However, you are in a disappointingly small minority of fans who support the team despite its win/loss record.
I was talking about the lack of student support with a couple of friends last night. Until I graduated last year, I was one of them that was there lined up to get in every chance I could and trying to get down low so I could cheer on our team (or heckle the other team). My wife and I don't have the finances to be big donors right now, so we had to go with the $99 seats in the corners. It's been a rough year of wanting to jump up and start screaming whenever we get a big stop or basket, but looking like an idiot all by myself in the balcony. However, at least in my section I have seen most of the people around me coming game after game. I was shocked when I looked over at the balcony student section and saw about 2 students total (probably the guy and his buddy that was posting on here). The rest was filled with older people, including about 1/3 KU fans. To think that our students wouldn't be showing up to a Saturday game against the top team in the conference made me sick. If they aren't going to show up even enough to fill a couple rows of the balcony, I think they should sell tickets to the top 12 rows of the ends for like 5-10 bucks a piece for the rest of the games and get them filled up with people that actually want to come watch. At least this way we'd have fans there and would make some extra money for the Athletic Department in the process. As hard as it was to get good seats when I was a student and when my parents went back to school in the early 90's, I never thought I'd see the day where none of the students cared enough to claim tickets they'd already paid for to watch Kansas come into Hilton.
dismal indeed...
My theory is that the new students coming in to the university are not as well informed of how things used to be, and the ones buying tickets in the balcony probably just have a mild curiosity of cyclone basketball. They must not know how much of a big deal that is. With that said, the fans that want to be there, the die-hards (myself included) sign up for CA, get down low and stay down low to have the greatest impact on the game and the environment.
Taking Prone2Clones numbers shows the following attendance pattern
JO 13,363
TF 11,920
LE 11,380
WM 11,472
I think some of the decrease was due to higher ticket prices that started in the TF-LE era. That has me a little concerned about the new FB ticket pricing.
i agree cycy. we will just have to give it a couple years. ticket sales for basketball will be going back up here in the next couple years when GMac gives fans a reason to be pumped (i.e. consectutive tourney births).
same thing will happen with football...after 2-3 years GC will have the potential obvious and sales will increase again. we may just have to get by on lower season sales for a few years. its not like we are used to selling 30,000 a year, we can get by a couple more years without being that high.
Guys and gals, I think you need to realize how lucky we are with what we have. I checked, just for fun, the day before the game and you couldn't get 2 tickets next to one another......basically a sellout and I think there were maybe a few season ticket holders at UNI for the duals. So a few students don't show up, big deal. IT WAS ELECTRIC IN THERE SATURDAY!...and in a LOSING effort! (Just imagine next year, maybe a little national pub?) No team can ask much more from a fanbase. And GMac in the radio postgame said that he couldn't imagine a better crowd in the Big XII. Be thankful for what we have and NEVER be ashamed of our incredible and intelligent crowd. And students.....TAKE A FRIEND!!!!
There might be some fair weather football fans, I'd agree with that. The majority of the fans (atleast 90 %) are as loyal as you will find. This community is a good example of the quality of fans we have.
Apparently we boo too much though. :)
I do not understand how some fans go to games and do not get up and cheer the Clones on ! I could not make it to yesterdays game yesterday as I was attending a funeral, but my wife and kids were there. In this day and age everybody stands throughout the game, my wife was explaining to me that the guy behind my son told him to sit down when the game was on the line with a minute to go. It is good thing I was not there, as I would have told him a thing or two. Why do fans that do not enjoy standing or do not get into the game bother coming to the game, when they could stay home and watch it on tv. I know some of you are going to say that they have paid for there ticket, well so have I, and if I want to stand and yell my team on, I am going to do it!
That is my opinion, I am curious to what others think.
