Schottenhiemer - Keep 'im or Curb 'im?
I have been hearing alot of speculation on the talk shows on the NFL Network about the future of the Chargers. Don't think I have heard of a top seeded playoff team talk about firing their coach, but it is out there.
Marty is notorious when it comes to the playoffs. A GREAT season coach, but just cannot get over that hump.
Personally, I think the Chargers keep him for one more year. Next year they try to either lure Cowher out of retirement OR try to make a run at Parcells. The Chargers have everything that Parcells likes in his teams....strong running game (understatement) and solid defense. You can bet that the head-butt Florence put on Watson on that failed third down play wouldn't happen under a Parcells coached team.
What say you?

You gotta keep him. His team just went 14-2!
Coaching didn't win or lose a game yesterday. I didn't really notice a fantastic/poor coaching move that blew me away. I did notice players making some plays and players not making some plays.
Don't muff a punt and/or don't give up an interception - SD wins.
But, fans see SD lose and automatically jump on Marty because it's the "in" thing to do.

I'd say keep him as well. That's a good team there and I thought the Super Bowl was their's to be had. Don't break up a good thing, give him another run or two.
However, his 5-13 playoff record is dismal.

Appearently, Marty and the GM of the Chargers really, really don't like each other. I recall that they were talking about maybe going in a different direction.
I agree that he should be given another year, but i can understand why they wouldn't.
To play into superstition.......Marty will be back next year, LT will be put on the cover of Madden 2008 and suffer a bizarre season-ending injury (bladder exploding or something). Then there goes their season........

Re: Schottenhiemer - Keep 'im or Curb 'im?
challenging the call of an interception followed by the fumble was a dumb thing to do and it clearly came back to haunt them in the end having no timeouts. i think they also tried to go for it on like 4th and 11 on the 30? that's not good coaching. also having players not mentally prepared enough to avoid making game changing personal fouls in this kind of a game has to fall somewhat into the coaches responsibility. i think a lot of coaches in the league could have went 14-2 or close to that record with the group of guys they had lining up this year. i wouldn't be a bit surprised to see him gone, and in my opinion, i think he probably should be.

Marty can get a job somewhere else, but there is only one LT.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Schottenhiemer - Keep 'im or Curb 'im?
i guess dennis green and art shell are avaiable...maybe the chargers should consider a coaching change

Parker lost that game. Dropped several passes and made stupid decision. Keep Marty.

Re: Schottenhiemer - Keep 'im or Curb 'im?
I can't believe they are even talking of replacing Marty. Marty didn't lose the game yesterday. Marty coached a great season. Why get rid of him? If they do fire him, Marty will have another job in about 30 minutes.

Re: Schottenhiemer - Keep 'im or Curb 'im?
I don't know if you can say that coaching didn't lose the game for the Chargers. Granted there were a lot of things that cost the chargers the game but there were a couple of questionable coaching decisions that could have affected the outcome of the game.
4th and 11 in the first quarter, the chargers could have tried a 47 yard field. They go for it and end up getting sacked. Kaeding is an excellent kicker within 50 yards. The game was still 0-0 and they had a chance to get on the board first.
Then there was the challenge at the end of the game that had absolutely no way of being overturned. That cost the Chargers a time out which could have helped them to get another play or two at the end of the game. Instead of a 54 yd field goal attempt, they might have gotten a little bit closer.
I'm not saying that coaching is the only reason for the loss because the players deserve a lot of the blame too. But the coaches definitely made some mistakes that had a negative effect on the outcome.

Then there goes their season........ I give it 50/50. I hear about Marty and management not getting along and he was already on the hot seat coming into this season supposedly. Would not surprise me either way when a decision is made on this.
As for the Madden cover, that is now my new fantasy draft rule. Don't draft the guy on the cover! Had that happen I think the year Vick was on it and didn't have much options to replace him although as it's turned out Vick is a guy that can really help or really hurt your fantasy team on a given day as inconsistent as he can be.

I drafted McNabb last year and got burned in my fantasy league. Avoided Alexander this year and won. (thank you Maurice Jones-Drew)
