This is a hard list to vote on. Are we going with pure comedy or just good movie? Comedy, it has to be Caddyshack. Good movie, that could go to either Bull Durham or Tin Cup or even Slap Shot.

Old Lady: "My fingers hurt." Nursing Home orderly (great Ben Stiller cameo): "Well, now your back's going to hurt because you just pulled landscaping duty. Anyone elses fingers hurt?"
It might not be the best sports movie but no one can say that Happy Gilmore isn't freakin' hilarious!!

Re: Best Sports Comedy Ever?
It seems like the list can go on forever with movies with good lines, but does dodgeball actually hold a candle to Caddyshack?
One other thought, how can Major League get more votes than Bull Durham? Is it because it was a more popular movie? Bull Durham has to be one of the most realistic and funniest Sport Movies out there. Major League is just a concept movie with funny characters thrown in there. Nothing original about it.

Bull Durham
It actually has a plot with real actors -- something every movie should have. Maybe I'm too old to remember how amusing junior high boys can be.
Although.....

I think Dodgeball should be in a poll about best obscure sport movies.

Caddyshack...it's just...untouchable.

I love both movies... but to call Major League unoriginal is absurd IMO. The commentary is great with Harry and Monty, and it showed how funny a locker room can be with diverse characters which is true to most sports.

Caddyshack is #71 on the American Film Institute's 100 Funniest Movies of all-time. The only other "sports" movie that I recognize on the list is Bull Durham. http://www.infoplease.com/ipea/A0882207.html
Personally, the funniest sports movie ever, though it doesn't intend to be, is The Jimmy Piersall Story. You'd think they might have made an attempt to find actors that look like they might have played baseball at some point in their lives!

And I do agree the commentary is funny, that's why I said funny characters were inserted. There are good lines and funny stuff that happens, but nothing is very original in the movie. The christian guy doesn't get along with the voodoo guy, the bad knees catcher wins the game on a bunt (sorry for the spoiler if you've never seen it), the catcher gets the girl, they win the pennat, wooo hooo another sports movie in the book.

Re: Best Sports Comedy Ever?
Just added Dodgeball - sorry about the oversight. Can't believe I missed a movie I own. Caddyshack is running away with this! I can't believe there isn't more love for The Sandlot - I admit that I didn't vote for it, either, but I figured it had such a cult following that it would have bigger numbers.
