That's exactly what I said in a previous post!!!!!!!!! He was great at it.........now that the label "Mac basher" has been applied why the hell would I state if I didn't believe it.......I have moved on.....I hope he get's a coaching job today...........it helps ISU from a $ position.........as long as threads appear speculating on D-Mac's future some will respond with thoughts that represent "Bashing" from your preception.......so be it and get over it
    1. My thread was not necessarily pointed at you. I do not label you as a "Mac basher" who repeatedly enjoys kicking a dead horse. Truce??

    2. I am over it, except for when I read some idiot comments like I have read on some posts where apparently certain posters can't go to sleep at night unless they twist the knife in a little deeper again.

I agree. DM seems to be a somewhat polarizing figure right now for ISU athletics, as evidenced by this thread. Both sides have their legitimate arguments. I think there needs to be some time to heal before he again joins the Athletic Department.

Easy for them to say. They didn't have to endure the agony the last 3 years like we did.

Another reason I'm glad Pollard made the change. Frankly, it concerns me that our opponents wanted the guy to stay. What does that say?

I want a coach that is respected, yes...but is respected for having a great team that is kicking their tail and not because he is a "nice guy"...someone who strikes fear into the opponents and the fans of the opponents!

I don't believe I've seen anyone start a thread recently to bash the old coach. All recent threads seem to have the "waiting with baited breath to see what job Mac gets" tone from someone who liked the guy. If anyone has not "moved on" it would seem to be those that really like the guy.

He is a polarizing figure...truer words could not be spoken. That is probably why any thread with him as the subject is going to have 3-4 times as many views and posts as any other topic on this site!

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Hardly a true fact at all! If you read these posts correctly you will see that all of the Mac supporters agreed with the change and have "moved on" while those that spent half of last season or more bashing Mac continue to rip the guy like somehow he doesn't deserve a job anywhere because he didn't take us to the level that they expect. I won't even bring all of my defense in this, but if you truly look at what all these posts about Mac say they are mostly idiots saying that he doesn't deserve anything after years of great memories of Mac's teams.

Re: Best place for Mac to return to?

I think its normal that some people will get attached to someone after 12 years. I don't care either way if someone loves or bashes Mac, but I can understand both views. I like Mac and hope he gets another job, but this is a Cyclone forum and he isn't our coach anymore. There's more Dan McCarney chat than there is Gene Chizek, which is rather curious.

I don't think it's worth getting bad rep for either way lol.

My brother in law is a big Notre Dame fan, and he is hoping they ditch Minter over there as D coordinator and pick up Mac.

Re: Best place for Mac to return to?

Twelve years of loyality from Mac?? First of all, ISU made him a millionaire. Secondly, as all of us are beginning to see, the loyality may have had something to do with the lack of people knocking on his door.

Am I into bashing DM? No. Just being realistic. I would love to see DM come back to ISU as a special assistant to JP as our funding raising VP.

Show me the post that was started by someone wanting to bash McCarney.

Almost all of the recent posts have been started with something like "McCarney to Stanford", "McCarney DC with Alvarez HC at Miami", "McCarney to Minnesota", "McCarney hired by Buccaneers" or "ND interested in McCarney". These are obviously nothing more than rumors...some of them ridiculous rumors.

In my opinion, the people who are starting these threads want to believe that he is a great coach with many coaching opportunities being presented to him so they can justify the nearly blind support they had for him while at ISU. I don't think some of these people agreed with the change back when it was made and many of them still don't agree with it...in short, they have not moved on.

Frankly, my guess is that he is not being presented with too many opportunities because of his record and the trajectory of the program over the past few years...certainly not head jobs at major colleges or coordinator slots in the NFL. All I am doing is pointing this fact out. I do not believe I have "ripped" the guy...but I certainly could if I wanted to!

I never met the guy but I am certain that he must be one helluva guy to have so many people still thinking so highly of him. I certainly don't relish in people losing their jobs and I wish the man no ill. But for you to say I think he "doesn't deserve a job anywhere" and then call me an "idiot"...that is insulting to me.

I think you need to realize that college football is a business...not a love affair or a marriage. The "great memories of Mac's teams" that you have are not reasons that will compel anyone to hire him. They will look at his record and accomplishments and make their decision on that basis.

Although you didn't state it, you probably also commend him for his "loyalty" to ISU and "giving us all he had for 12 years". You can bet any coach would be just as loyal in a situation where he is allowed to continue on year after year with the results that McCarney had at the compensation level he was at. I would bet that if McCarney would have went 3-8, 7-4, 9-2, and 11-1 in his first four years in Ames and a school like Notre Dame or Florida came calling he would have left town faster than you can say Urban Meyer. We afforded McCarney tremendous job security for 12 years when most schools would have given him the boot far earlier.

I think we have finally turned the page on what I think was a very mediocre chapter in ISU football history. I believe we have hired a great coach in Coach Chizik. I am again excited about the prospects of ISU football. Frankly I hope the man does so well that everyone has him on their "hot coaches" list. One thing you are dead on right about...McCarney didn't take us to the level that we deserve and should expect. Now I have placed those expectations clearly on Coach Chizik's shoulders!

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.
