I say F-U to all that think just because they went to ISU they think they are better and bigger fans. Went to tons of games from elementry on through when I was in college at UNI. My older bro attended ISU and I spent a lot of time down there for athletic events. I just didn't want to live that far from home at the time.

I know plenty of ISU grads that never attended a sporting event in their 4 or 5 years in Ames.

If you guys are so all an knowing college grads, you wouldn't make such an ignorant generalization. Wow.

Yeah, I hate the Iowa Hawkeyes but the reason they have some many unrelated fans is because of their (make me puke) success in the 80's etc... hard to admit.

Feel free to show your maturity and lower my rep level now.

Spending an undeterminded number of years in ANY city/town attending a single university (or working for a single employer) DOES give you a vested interest in that university (or business). Tack on the fact that you'll be paying MONTHLY checks to that institution (college loan repayment) for YEARS... & I'd say you'll be bleeding Cardinal & Gold... So NO, it might not make you a BETTER fan, but it sure gives you a damn good reason to care!

First off I am an ISU alum. I get the joke because for the most part it is true. Anyone with no affiliation to either university probably jumped on the Hawkeye bandwagon in the 80's and 90's. That is why giving hawk fans a hard time about this is funny because they are bandwagon jumpers.

If I had not attended ISU I probably would not be a big ISU fan today. I think if you didn't attend ISU, but are still a Cyclone fan you are probably considered a way bigger fan because you have no reason to put up with all the crap that you do but you're still a fan.

All cyclone fans should be up for sainthood for the misery and heartache they have seen through the years.

Very good point. Cyclone fans earn the status of fan by continually defending themselves after getting embarassed and heartbroken time after time. To me that makes someone a fan whether they went to the University or not. Hawkeye fans wouldn't know what that's like.

The chatter of who the better fans are because they did/didn't attend the school they root for seems a bit childish to me.

We're fans, period. If we're wearing Cardinal & Gold - that's great. We shouldn't think one person's Cardinal & Gold looks better than then other person's just because one attended ISU and the other didn't - or vice versa.

I could apply the same thing to fans of other programs yet I really wouldn't get far with that argument here.
