| Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other." |

We have a plethera of talent at wideout, we have Blythe and Hamilton, who are big guys who can go up and get the ball. Moses who will fill what Davis can do, and than Messiah who will run short routes and be a very good screen guy, I think, we need to learn how to run screens and should be able to in 4 or 5 wideout sets, if we can teach receivers to block. Another thing we might see is Barkema lined up as a receiver in some instances, which would add a wrinkle, do some underneath routes with him coming under a post route for Blythe. I think with our personal right now, this offense sounds perfect, now we only have to figure out who the hell can block and who the hell can run. What about R.J. Sumrall?

I've seen many a game where Eric went on and on about how the wind was going to be a factor, yet the other team didn't seem to have much trouble moving the ball in the air. | | |

remember the screen pass. i can count the number of times we called a screen pass in the last 10 years and picked up 20 yards on one hand and have five fingers left over. i can count the number of times in the last 10 years we gained yardage on a screen pass on one hand and have fingers left over.

4 and 5 wideouts and Brett looking down the one he is going to throw it to the whole play does what for you? If Brett can be taught to look off his receivers and pump fake once along with a line that can block it would be a whole different story!

And as crummy as this one felt, Cyclone fans, it could be a lot worse. You could be a Hawkeye. - Sean Keeler (imagine that, actually quoting Keeler!)

I thought Meyer looked like two different QBs last year. Sometime in slo mo throwing the ball out of bounds where there was pressure, and sometime in high geer running and passing. Did anyone else get that feeling? He'll have to perform, or someone else will.

I've never been that much a fan of the spread myself, although various teams have proven that it can work very effectively. I would find it very hard as a QB to actually utilize 4-5 recievers. Making reads with that many options is undoubtedly quite a task.

I understand the sarcasm.
But a good offense will have precious few third and long situations. If we have to worry about third and long too much then we are having big problems on first and second downs.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Wow...aren't you "Mr. Glass Half Empty"! This excuse for not passing is highly overrated. Did you see the NFC Championship game yesterday? Wind, sleet, and snow didn't seem to keep either the Bears or Saints from passing the ball. And do you think the wind never blows in west Texas (Lubbock) where Texas Tech plays? They throw on nearly every play.
Come on start thinking positively!

I'll never forget my freshman year ('01) and at my first game my upperclass friends would properly predict the 'draw'. That never changed.
And apologies to the board if this topic has been beaten to death in the past, which I suspect it has, but still fairly new to CF. 3rd and long....draw play!! that is a staple of ISU football...it goes back at least to the Walden era....When opposing teams hear ISU, they think....3rd and long...draw play.
No man or coach is bigger than the institution...therefore Chizik must call it (its probably in his contract anyways...) <sarcasm> ISU without that play would be like, OU or Neebraska without a wishbone (oh, wait, that happened...)

Meyer running in high gear? That was sarcasm, right? Can he run in anything other than slow motion? I think I could tackle him by waving my hand his direction.

[quote=psycln11;75659]depends on what routes the receivers are running. Brett didn't have time with the routes we ran last year as the receivers didn't get immediate separation.QUOTE]
This is exactly the point needed to be made if Chizik wants the wide open...the O-line has to play out of its mind to be able to run the wide open O like we tried last year, bcuz obvs. it didn't work to well last year, bret was running for his life way too often. honestly its boring but i'd like to see us get back to the run setting up the pass, get back to what used to be our bread and butter at State, you all remember a guy named Troy Davis, and Darren Davis? Now that Stevie Hicks is gone, I didn't hate hicks, but i didn't love him either, it just seemed like he was always running thru 3 feet of snow...I think we need the ground to set up the pass.
If Chizik is really gonna run the wide open, it better be short and speedy routes with quick separation, otherwise, meyers gonna have an '06 repeat, which i know we ALL don't want.
