Juco Recruits

I saw that ISU has interest from the number 1 Juco recruit in the nation. Woodny Turenne is a fast cover corner out of California. He'd fill the void left by D. Jack nicely. Anyone know what are chances are with this guy? I know rivals has Louisville as his favorite, but I don't know if that reflects their recent coaching change.

Also, Brian Ellis (#13) would be a great replacement for Tyrone.

I consider it unlikely we land either of those guys, since I've heard nothing of coaches making trips out to California.

Just by looking at everything I see...there is one common denominator with Coach Chizik's recruiting wish list...SPEED, SPEED, and more SPEED. Just look at the best teams in the country...they are the ones with the best overall team speed at every position. I am glad we have a head man that understands this basic principle.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

It is interesting that on almost all jc recruits that have not made a verbal we are on their list with a med interest level. If any make it to Ames it could make a big difference for next year.

Re: Juco Recruits

I've been impressed with what GC has done so far. The Juco's he's brought in project to be starters or at least backups. He is also bringing in more DT's than we have had in the last three or so years. Mac's recruiting classes were always woefully short of DT's. We were just lucky that we picked up a walk-on like Jordan Carstens. And that two of our DT recruits were named Leaders and Curvey.

I also like the fact that he is very selective in giving out his scholarships. It has been rumored that he basically told Eilert that it would be in his best interest to go somewhere else. Mac certainly signed many who had marginal talent. The recruiting class that had Tjaden, Schober, Cook, Brandt, Schmeling was supposed to be the best line we ever had. Brandt was okay. Schmeling (a greyshirt) might pan out also. Not a lot of production from the rest of that group.

Certainly hope we get Alex Cook. A lock down Corner. Another OL or two. Plus a stud linebacker and a stud safety.

I don't know how many more possible "studs" we can get. Might be project players are all we get now.

Re: Juco Recruits

Alex Cook, the No 18 ranked JuCo player in the nation is also looking long and hard at ISU. He visited Ames last weekend and has narrowed his choices down to ISU, Arkansas, and Arizona State. I hope he doesn't make his choice based on weather...

I had the same thoughts when it came to GMac and basketball last spring. I think he did an awesome job. There are still some pretty good players on the board. It is tough. But there are still players out there who could make an impact.

Agreed! To have success in recruiting you have to be aggressive. Remember, right now everyone is still "on the board"...the only commitment that anyone has made at this point is a "verbal commitment" which literally means nothing...I remember when Hinrich and LaFrentz "committed to ISU!

I live in Louisiana and everyone here is all upset because Nick Saban is going after several guys that are verbally committed to LSU. Coach Chizik is smart, he is going to keep recruiting guys that he thinks he has a good shot to get that can fill the needs he has on the team. I get the sense that this man does not have any quit in him.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

I have been saying all along...if I was one of the elite DB's in the country there is no question that I would go to Iowa State to play under Chizik. The NFL corners/DB's that Texas has churned out under his leadership would be enough for me to make the commitment. Plus you could play right away...if we pull the teamates of Woodney & B.Ellis..ISU will be on the map.
