Texas Tech

Is anybody else surprised that Texas Tech is tied for first place in the Big 12 with a 4-1 record, including wins over both Kansas and Texas A&M?

Knight's New Years day win over New Mexico meant #800 and that has propeled them since....they struggled early like in Las Vegas but have played "lights out since" .........It only gets tougher here on out tho.

True that there aren't going to be a lot of gimme wins in the Big 12 this year, but seeing as they already have beaten Kansas and Texas A&M it can't get a lot tougher than that for them. I guess they still have Texas and Okie St twice each, but they've already proven that they can beat the best in the league and don't play KU again. Looks like the old fox can still coach a little bit!

I think Knight is a great coach, and it shows when he gets players who are willing to work within his system. I know we're supposed to dislike other Big XII schools, but I love watching their offense, to me it feels like the way basketball is supposed to be played.

Re: Texas Tech

No, they have lots of returners from last year and their schedule has been helpful with getting KU and A&M at home.

They'll fade once they get out on the road a little more than they have but that's certainly an awesome start for them.

You can't argue with the fact that he is still one of the best coaches in the game.

I truely believe that Texas Tech learned from their earlier defeats.

Maybe their success is due to the extra money they receive from the insane number of adds on their court...

Here goes my estimate:

Tech. A&M, Kansas Huggy State, Kansas, Okie State, Texas are Tier 1,

Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Iowa State are Tier 2, and

Baylor and Colorado are tier 3.

We are battling to be in sixth place before the tournament and expecting to play Baylor in play in round for an NIT berth with 16 or 17 wins.

Re: Texas Tech

Probably pretty close but I think KSU is on the lower end of the top tier and ISU is closer to the lower end of the middle tier. I'm still not convinced Tech will finish higher than 5th although Texas has had some struggles lately.

Re: Texas Tech

Anybody catch PTI this afternoon? They were discussing if it was possible for Tech to place any more advertisements on their floor. Wilbon and Kornheiser agreed that they could, and that this would be a growing trend in college basketball in the coming years. I know ISU is in desperate need of improving our budget, but I would hate to have the floor of Hilton look like the hood off a Nascar car.

Rermember that is Lubbock, the western armpit of Texas, where 7000 fans is a big deal and it is a great time to advertise since few read newspapers or thrifty nickel tabloids.
