From what I have gathered from a variety of non premium sources, it appears that Iowa State has 15 solid commits for football, and is in play for another 15. Of that additional 15, I would estimate if we hit on 5-10 of them, that would be doing well. I would expect some walk ons from the state of Iowa and possibly some additional Iowa signees if our total numbers stagnate around the 20 mark. Immediate needs are being recruited for, and the signees are a mix of jc and seniors. All in all, not bad for a short first year, and if the undecided fall our way, it could be a good recruiting year.
And what about Tanner? He made Utah's minimum expectations in less than a week. It would be nice to know if grades are a big driver in current recruiting process or are we willing to take a few chances because we are so far behind the eight ball.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style.
It wouldn't surprise me if Chizik saves up to 5 scholarships from this class and uses them for JUCO transfers next December. That would give him ability to address some immediate needs that may be present after seeing the team in action.
One interesting note...McCarney had a big class last year in terms of numbers. Not much size and the speed looks a bit marginal. He did recruit two field goal kickers, I don't know if either is any good, and a scholarship to a punter. Trying to figure out what red shirt freshman or true freshman will help is tough. I can't figure out the Tanner thing..don't know if we will every get the true story.
