Re: Favorite 80s Tunes
I never saw REM in Ames. But did see them in Iowa City at Hancher. I think they we're touring behind Fables of the Reconstruction.
Loverboy was in Ames for a show one night when we were eating at Carlos O'Kellys. The singer lit up a joint at the table next to ours.

I've always liked Peter Gabriel. Sledgehammer, Red Rain, Shock the Monkey, I have the Touch. Don't like the overplayed, In Your Eyes, though.
A great 80s song is She Sells Sanctuary by the Cult. Great song!

Re: Favorite 80s Tunes
Sixteen posts in and nobody has yet mentioned Aerosmith! I'll submit their comeback version of "Walk This Way" with RunDMC. Staying on the bent of duets, how about "What've I Done to Deserve This" by the Pet Shop Boys with Dusty Springfield? Of course that leads me to General Hospital's own Rick Springfield and the Working Class Dog album headed by "Jesse's Girl"...
OK, I've gotta get out of here and do some work...

Re: Favorite 80s Tunes
I love the Beastie Boys. "Paul's Boutique" was genius.
What was everyone's first concert? I went to see Bon Jovi and Cinderella when I was about 9 or so.

What is it about Bon Jovi and little girls? My daughter is 10, and her I pod is stuffed with Bon Jovi.

Re: Favorite 80s Tunes
Doesn't anyone here like to "Wang Chung"? The use of the band's name as a verb doesn't seem to have caught on, but I use it every once in awhile, usually in conjunction with the adjective "Smurfy".

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -
Re: Favorite 80s Tunes
All of this reminiscing makes me wonder what the "local" live music scene is like in central Iowa these days. I can only remember one local band from back in the mid 80s...The Eclectics. I have been to a number of college towns and many have very vibrant local music scenes...Austin, Athens, and Baton Rouge all come to mind.

A great 80s song is She Sells Sanctuary by the Cult. Great song! LOVE THE CULT! I have seen them twice, both times in CR.

Re: Favorite 80s Tunes
What?! No Prince??
And you can also put Purple Rain up for one of the best 80's themed movies ever. It's right up there with Flashdance, Footloose, Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo, and Legend.
