Mediacom to Increase Rates

DMR LINK

What great timing on this increase...

Now not only do you not get Fox, you are paying higher rates for the other channels.

I'm glad I just switched to DirecTV and Qwest DSL.

And for anyone who cares, I haven't noticed a huge difference with Qwest vs. Mediacom. Downloading is slower but that's about all I have noticed.

DirecTV is also increasing. I received an email a couple days ago. Depending on the package, there will be a $3-$5 jump.

I know it's just business but that's a dumb move on their part. I understand they have to make money but they sure picked a bad time to do this.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

I have had service for close to a year now. Maybe since you are a new subscriber they will hide your increase for a while.?.

I guess I am surprised at this announcement also. You think with the public relations nightmare they are going through now they would wait till it got settled, or made an announcement together. I understand it is business to raise rates from time to time. But wow you think somebody working there would think this through a little bit.

Re: Mediacom to Increase Rates

I think Dish Network locked their rates in until 2008 if I remember what the installer told me last year. Been without Mediacom for nearly a year now and have not had 1 outage on the internet service with Qwest and a few flakey times with the dish but not any more often than when I had cable.

If that is not another bizzare twist to the Mediacom saga... They lose FOX and also CBS in Cedar Rapids then on top of it they increase rates after they probably just lost a bunch of business. We really need someone like Time Warner or ComCast to come into Des Moines and force some competition because as long as Mediacom is running the cable Monopoly stuff like this is going to happen.

Ohh, if that could only happen, but it can't. Mediacomm has an exclusive agreement with Des Moines, to be the only cable provider. Kinda ironic that mediacomm is complaining about exclusive monopolistic practices huh?

I could see them charging more if they actually made a deal with Sinclaire Broadcasting. It would seem to justify the hike, and they could cast Sinclaire in a bad/worse light. As it stands, we are just paying more for less. I guess they have to make up for all the business that they lost.

I grew up without cable and my wife and I, in order to save some money, hooked up the bunny ears and we are loving life with free tv. I also wish that qwest gave espn.com 360, mediacom had that and it was nice. But I am looking forward to watching less tv as the weather will one day get nicer.

It is ironic. The funny thing is you don't realize how bad Mediacom is until you finally make the switch. I was already tired of their crap after several problems with them including 1 really big mess up on their part when I moved. My service got switched fine then for some reason 3 months later I called in an outage and they tried to tell me that I had not requested a switch to my new location. Funny cuz I was getting bills in the mail and a Mediacom guy came out to my house and installed 2 new jacks the week I moved into my house so I KNOW I did! I had to get it escalated to 3 different people before they finally corrected the problem without wanting to bill me again for it and have to wait a few days for the change to happen.

It's now night and day with the quality of service I get with Dish and Qwest. Made me wonder why I waited so long and kept putting up with the same crap that everyone is still putting up with today.

This is true. That is the salesmanship currently employed. They think you are too lazy to switch after price increase in two years. Rep points for you.
