cnnsi.com list of top 20 freshmen
I was disappointed to see no mention of Wesley Johnson on cnnsi's list of top 20 freshmen. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/mul...content.1.html
I think he's been more solid than Darrell Arthur from Kansas who's listed at #8.

Re: cnnsi.com list of top 20 freshmen
Darrelll plays for Kansas, Wes plays for Clones. Kansas is nationally known, we are not. It is a Dick Vitale like "hype them for my friends" selection anyway.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

How many of these guys were McD AA?

Re: cnnsi.com list of top 20 freshmen
It's ridiculous that Wesley is not on that list! He is easily the 2nd best freshman in the BigXII (behind Durant, of course). I know it's hard to get too excited about him lately, as the Cyclones have faltered...But come on! He's already been named BigXII Freshman of the Week and BigXII Player of the Week. It's too bad he hasn't set a new ISU record for double-doubles by a freshman....yet.
By the way, that reminds me of my idea for his nickname- How about 'Dub'? Dub is short for W (Wesley) but could also stand for Double-Double. I was pretty excited about this idea back at the Kansas game, but Wesley still deserves some props!
Dub is going to be a stud, and we'll be lucky to have him for 4 years!

Re: cnnsi.com list of top 20 freshmen
I don't know what else Wesley can do to prove it. He's playing great ball against great competition on a below average team!

Re: cnnsi.com list of top 20 freshmen
crazy thing is thinking about how much more he could do next year with craig brackins playing forward along with him. wesley could get a ton of putback points and such with a lot of focus going on other players, its ridiculous to even think we'll have enough depth next year that Rahshon Clark might be coming off the bench!

Re: cnnsi.com list of top 20 freshmen
Being selfish, I'd rather Wesley not get the name recognition. I'm hoping that he will stay the whole 4 years.

Re: cnnsi.com list of top 20 freshmen
While I would love to see Wes get some recognition, I would rather see our guys prove it on the court. I think that we will end up with a couple of solid 4 year type guys from the last class (Johnson and Johnson and Dodie). Not that those other guys deserve to be top 20 in hte country yet, but having guys stay 4 years will really help, especially if you can get a couple guys who are starters.

I was thinking that for a while too, but i've changed my mind. D.J. Augustin at Texas is, in my opinion, the second best freshman in the Big 12. Wesley is probably the third. And if Obi Muonelo didn't get injured at Okie State earlier this season, he'd probably be second right now.
But, there are four McD All-Americans in the league: Tweedy Carter (Baylor), Damion James (Texas), Darrell Arthur (KU), Sherron Collins (KU) that, in my (hopefully) unbiased opinion, Wesley has outplayed this year.
Point is, the Big 12 is loaded with great freshman. Here's your list of possible all-freshman team players (obviously the injured ones won't make the all-freshman, but i put them there to show how deep the B12 is with freshman):
Ryan Anderson (Nebraska)
Wesley Johnson (Iowa State)
Xavier Silas (Colorado)
Bill Walker (Kansas State)
Darrell Arthur (Kansas)
Sherron Collins (Kansas)
Keon Lawrence (Missouri)
Tony Crocker (Oklahoma)
Obi Muonelo (Oklahoma State)
Tweedy Carter (Baylor)
Damion James (Texas)
DJ Augustin (Texas)
Kevin Durant (Texas)
I think you can make a legitimate case for anyone on this list to be a all-freshman B12 (except Bill Walker and Obi Muonelo for injuries, who otherwise would have been locks). This has got to be the best class of freshman ever in the B12. I think the conference will be pretty difficult in two to three years.

Re: cnnsi.com list of top 20 freshmen
It amazes me how young the conference is this year. I thought I heard somewhere there were about 10 senior starters in the entire league.

Looked at that SI article one more time, i don't even think Darrell Arthur is the best freshman on the KU team. Sherron Collins has been a spark plug off the bench, i'd say he's been more valuable than Arthur. Whoever selected the SI list did it on rep.
