Cory Johnson
Just saw this from gocyclones.com I think CJ will be here for the long run and isn't transfering.
CORY'S COOL. Iowa State freshman Cory Johnson did not play against Baylor Saturday, just the second time this season he failed to log any minutes.
Coach Greg McDermott said the game's matchups favored the Cyclones' other big men. Johnson has never publicly pouted about a lack of playing time or down statistics.
"This year is just a huge learning year for me," said the 6-7 forward from Duluth, Minn. "Next year, I want to be a lot stronger so I can push some dudes around. I want to be a guy who can create space for himself. There's times where I'll be there for the rebound, and the guy will just out-jump me."

Re: Cory Johnson
Hope you're right. There are a lot of players next year he will by vying for minutes from.

Re: Cory Johnson
I think at times, he showed that he can compete in the Big XII, so hopefully he develops his upper body more so he won't get pushed around all the time

Re: Cory Johnson
I think Cory will be in the hunt for minutes. He played really well in the Ohio State game from what I heard, I was down in Florida for a game, but it just seems like when there is a big bruiser of a guy that he has trouble. That is expected since not even a year ago he was playing high school basketball. It sounds like he has the right attitude and seems like he will always hustle for the ball. I hope he sticks with it...he could be a special player when he gets everything figured out.

Re: Cory Johnson
let Cory J. take McIntosh's place can't do anything worse

Re: Cory Johnson
I've only seen us play twice on TV since I live far from Iowa. This kid looks like a "project" player that will at most only be a role player. I just don't see that he has the body or the athleticism to compete in the Big 12. That's my opinion...tough to judge on only a couple of games watched on TV...here's to hoping I'm wrong about this.
cgwarrior33 - there are a lot of guys around the country that were "not even a year ago playing HS basketball"...Kevin Durant, DJ Augustine, and Darrell Arthur just to name a few that are key contributors in the Big 12 right now.
I want to see us recruit more "impact" players.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

We've beat that dead horse to a pulp, and Corey played as well as he's played all year yesterday in a game that we really needed to win. He's giving everything he's got, and if Cory Johnson was the answer at point guard I'm sure GM would have him there (and I would be astounded at how a 6'7 player who doesn't have the athleticism yet to play the 3 in the big 12 was able to play the point for us).

Re: Cory Johnson
CJ transferring? How does this even get started when Cory has said nothing but good things about his freshman year? Is this just more Hawk drivel hoping they have another Haloser on their hands?
Cory, Dodie, along with no. 1 stud WJ, will be far from role players by their junior and senior years.
Clone to the Bone with the up and coming IOWA STATE. -
Re: Cory Johnson
Cory is just having to play out of position this year. They are playing him at center most times. That rough for any 6'7" true frosh. Hes doing a helluva job. I think he has great potential. He really knows his way around the basket on offense, and is already our best banger on defense.

Re: Cory Johnson
I have seen Cory at the Lied Rec center virtually every night that i go there. That is on top of the work that they already have the team doing. With his work ethic, I am confident that he will have a very productive career as a Cyclone.

Re: Cory Johnson
Johnson will be averaging over 10 points a game by his junior year. Mark it down. You can clearly see he knows his way around the hoop and also has a good shot.

I agree, he will easily be averaging double figures when he's a junior. If he can really gain some strength over the summer, he could even do it next year. At the very least, I think he'll be averaging 8-9 next year. The guy has talent and hustle.

Cory, Dodie, along with no. 1 stud WJ, will be far from role players by their junior and senior years. The reason i said transferring was people on here were talking about how he might transfer because his playing time has gone down. After reading this, I don't think he will be going anywhere.

Re: Cory Johnson
Coach Mac is big on matchups and how the flow of the game is going and he must never saw a chance for Cory to fit in on Saturday. Maybe Cory has hit a little bit of a wall being a freshman. I think he has a chance to be a good productive player if he stays and buys into Coach Mac's system like many kids his size did for Mac up at UNI!!
