Iowa Politics

With all of the "this guy is running for President" talk and with all of the trips these people will be taking to Iowa, I thought a simple political question was in order.

Are you a Republican, Democrat, other, or don't care?

If you are into politics at all, you know that Iowa has a HUGE say in the two presidential candidates who will represent each party. Your Iowa caucus vote will have infinitely times more impact that your general election vote.

The poll isn't necessarily designed to start a big debate, rather just to get a feel for the political make-up of a message board.

Consider me one of the "I don't care" folks. I used to eat up politics at a faster rate than linemen eat twinkies.

But the mud slinging is what chased me away. If I wanted to watch mud-slinging - I'd locate myself a nice co-ed mud wresting match, get a bean-bag and some Cheetos. But that's another story...

If I were to be labeled, I'd gravitate closer to the Republican end - yet I consider myself an independent American over any political affiliation.

I don't like to be pegged as being associated with one party or the other either. Although, I tend to side with the Dems. I wouldn't have any problem voting a Republican for Pres if it was the right Candidate. McCain has a lot of appeal to me, for example.

I see no valid argument FOR the party system anymore. If every politician were able to think for themselves, as opposed to being pressured to vote on party lines, we would be a lot better off! That's my take on politics...

Same here. I'm in the "I don't care" crowd. Probably more of the "no affiliation" crowd.

Used to be one of those schmucks who just regurgitated what the Republican leaders would say, regardless of what was said. But W and the recent leadership has really changed my position on that. I just can't support alot of what they do and say. At the same time, I probably shake my head just as much, if not more whenever I hear Pelosi, Clinton, Kerry, Kennedy and Harkin yapping at a microphone.

So I'm more of the independent mindset with conservative leanings. Unfortunately, that opens you up to all kinds of harrassment because the political parties seem to view you as virgin recruiting territory..... :no6xn:

I'm like the both you. I was big into politics listened to Rush, Sean, and Drudge on a regular basis, believed everything they said, blah blah, blah, but something happened after the 2004 elections that turned me off to politics and haven't followed it since.

Registered independent. Not a Republican but definitely not a Democrat. I hate the party system also. The Democratic platform, at this point, seems very close to socialism.

I guess I should have said which party do you associate or side with more often.

I call myself a republican although many of my traditional republican values are long gone...where did fiscal responsibility go?

There are many republican candidates I wouldn't vote for...McCain being one of them.

Link Check this survey out it is pretty interesting. I consider myself a moderate republican but actually ended up on the left upper quadrant, not a bad place to be but probably at odds with the GOP's base.

On a side note: How funny is it that the 2 things our parents told us not to discuss in casual company are hot topics today on CF. Religion and Politics. LOL

If you talk strictly Iowa politics I always find it hard to vote for Iowa Republicans. And this from a guy who leans big time that way. What a messed up party the Republicans are in this state.

On the flip side I NEVER cast a vote for any Polk County Democrat. Why? Witness CIETC. My 'boycott' predates CIETC, but it shows clearly what happens when EITHER party controls an area of government for too long.

This country needs a third party to unite the middle 60% of us!!

I'm a registered Democrat, but, have voted for just one since 1980. Like most responders, I think both parties provide reason to opt out, which I'd do, but, I fear that would leave one extreme or the other in charge.

I'm registered Independent because I don't like party afiliation so I am not eligible to vote in the primaries. I'll vote for the best candidate (if there is such a thing anymore) regardless of party. My political views tend to learn more to the conservative side of the scale though.

Any more it's who is less full of BS when it comes to these races. Seems like there is always some kind of dirt on everyone that runs and what they actually do once elected to what they promised in their campaign is never the same. I can see why some people don't even bother to vote anymore.

Rush and Hannity are two talking heads that just make my skin crawl. Every now and then I'll stumble over to WHO (can't stand Rome on KXNO) and listen to him - on the whole for about 30 seconds. Are there two more people more full of themselves than Hannity and Limbaugh? Maybe O'Reilly, but I kind of like his (tv) show.

I haven't ever listened to Drudge, but I have heard good things. Another that I hear good things about is Glen Beck, but I haven't heard him either.

Actually, I can't stand most of the personalities. They end up being overly engrossed with their own opinions and end up being spiteful, that it's hard to use it as a forum to form your own opinion. And that's the problem with politics today. No open exchange of ideas. Just partisan wrangling.

I pay attention only enough to keep track of what's generally going on. More troops going, tax cuts or hikes coming, cut backs here or there. Anything beyond that (the how's or why) is just maddening.

INdependent I would call myself. Although I think Tom Harkin is the biggest idiot in the whole world.

He is trying to get illigal immigrants in-state tuition to our university's.

So let me get this straight Harkin. If your illegal from Mexico you pay instate. However if your legal from Illinois you have to pay out of state. Yeah that makes sense.
