my personal opinion on this is simple....let every single division 1 team in the torney....get rid of conference tournaments and then for the first few rounds until the field gets to 64 have the games at the home sites of higher seeded teams. and also the higher seeded teams would get a bye....so higher seeded teams would have to win 8 games to win the title and lower seeded teams would have to win 9 games...what do you guys think of this idea?
[/b][/quote] The conference tournaments are FAR, FAR more exciting than the early rounds of a 128 team national tournament would be. The 1 vs. 16 seed games are usually a route, what do you think 1 vs. 32 games would look like?
Every NCAA D1 team has a chance to play in the big dance- go out an play well in their conference tournament!
Plus the thing that stinks about pro sports is the regular season games don't mean anything. With a 128 team tournament, just about every major conference team would get a bid. College hoops is exciting because ESPN starts focusing in on bubble teams at the end of January- games during February have meaning. Go to a 128 tournament and college hoops will turn into the NBA where no one watches the regular season, they just pay attention to the playoffs.
but remember a 16 seed in a tourney with every team would be a lot better than the current system since you got teams from piece of crap conferences makin the tournament...thats another big reason i dont like the tournament set up now...why not just pick THE BEST 65 teams
the problem is the bubble teams that are not getting in....george mason for example...most thought they shouldnt of been in to begin with...look what they did...then there is hofsta....beat george mason twice this season but didnt make the tourney....expanding the tournament would make it so every deserving team is in
That was the argument for going to 64 teams in the first place. Unless you let everyone in, there will still be bubble teams, and the associated controversy.
I believe that letting too many teams into the tournament will lessen the importance of the regular season. And, there is a certain excitement surrounding the selection process. Leave things the way that they are.
Expanding is an awful idea. I will cry if they do this.
The 1 vs. 16 seed games are usually a route,
If you noticed, these games are getting closer and closer. The day is coming, when a #16 knocks off a #1.
Why have a season then? Just one big ol' tournement with everyone in.....bad idea

Agreed. This is stupid. 128 teams would be very stupid. That is too many tourney games to go undefeated and it makes the regular season seem unimportant.
What is the worst seed to ever make the finals of the NCAA tournament? That should be proof enough to say DO NOT EXPAND. Until a 16 seed makes it to the final 4, there is no reason to expand.
If anything, they could expand the NIT.
