Pass it on to him that we still want him in Cardinal and Gold-His dad can even hang around practice if he wants to pick up a few things.

    Re: Ben Cotton

If this kid would even consider going to Iowa, what the hell do our coachs talk about at home?
Must not be something like-- "The last place I, as a check cashing ISU coach, would want you, my son, to play for would be our in state rival. UNI maybe, but never the damn Hawks."

No offense to Iowa High School football players, but I think we will see Chizek and staff go after a better quality recruit. I think we will see more from Texas, FL, and the SE, as opposed to Iowans.

Yeah that makes sense. Lets go after some guys from Texas when we have guys like Todd Blythe in our backyard.

That is just ridiculous. Chizek has even mentioned he wants to recruit Iowa first. Look at all the good players to come out of this state. Are there as many as other states? No. But can our best be as good as their best? Of course. Look at Bernstine. The guy (despite being from the state of Iowa) is the 3rd ranked safety in the nation. I would think we should go after these guys, who we have a much better chance of getting, rather than going after 3 star safeties from Texas, FL, and the SE!

Yeah it does make sense. Look at it this way, a 3 star recruit from Florida, or Texas more than likely will be better that even a 4 star player from Iowa. The reason for this is the competition that they play week in and week out. The off-season programs are 2-3 times what we do in Iowa. I don't want a 4 star who had a big week at a camp when I can have a guy that has to bring it at the highest level every week.

I agree that Bernstine is a good player, but how many plays could he take off because he was just physically better than the people that he was playing against??? The tapes that I saw, it looked like it happened quite a bit. But he went to the Nike camp, and had a big week so he was the man.

Cotton already has offers from Iowa and Wisconsin, and is getting interest from Notre Dame.

    I'd say he's a high quality recruit.

Spot on Darts. I played HS FB in ND. I watched HS FB in IA for 11 years. I moved to TX and was just absolutely floored by HS FB down here. It's really somewhat unbelievable until you actually see the facilities and the training that the HS kids go through with your own eyes. I'm sure it's the same in FL and CA as well.

That said, I think it's still imperative for ISU to get the best HS kids out of IA.

I dont know the list of top Iowa prospects for next year, but he has got to be in the top 5.

    Re: Ben Cotton

Can you name anyone else thats gonna be in the top 10? No one in Iowa sticks out that much next year or most years. Most top quality players in Iowa should be dominating and getting press when they are juniors, are there any out there for next year? Maybe i dont follow IA HS football as close as some, but there arent a lot of big names for next year. I guess well know more after this summer when they take camps to ISU, Iowa, and others around the country.

    Re: Ben Cotton

Just here-say, haven't actually seen him play, but I have heard people who have seen him play say he is somewhat over-rated. Not saying he is, but when his peers go out of their way to say that about him there might be some merit to it. Last lineman I heard was totally over-hyped from high school kids, Blake Larson. Haha!

I coached against Ames when Ben was a soph and I would say he is very much underrated.
