Drake vs. UNI
Drakes beats UNI in Cedar Falls to go 4-0 against in-state competition. Congrats to them...I never would have guessed that would happen.
I was reading the box score and UNI had 5,783...I think that's almost 1,000 below capacity. We talk about the Iowa bandwagon fans, Northern Iowa IMO is much worse. Drake had over 7,200 in attendance against UNI and the same against Creighton.
I guess #1) I didn't realize how small UNI's new arena is and #2) I didn't think it would be that hard to sell 6,500 tickets.

Congrats to Drake, they are often the forgotten ones when it comes to the Big 4 and this will give them something to brag about for the reminder of the year.

Re: Drake vs. UNI
UNI charged $30 for the ISU game this year in the dome, $15 for every other game.

Congrats to Dr. Tom and his Bulldogs.

Re: Drake vs. UNI
the McCleod Center seats around 7,000+, it was a pretty pathetic showup but I can understand why, UNI is my 2nd fav. team (or whoever is playing iowa) and they have been slipping lately. You can tell this is a team where Jacobsen has just been riding McDermott's success...I fear for this team after next year once Eric Coleman is gone. Plus it has been cold as balls here. And I am sure that anytime iowa or ISU comes to play, they'll play the game in the UNI-Dome, which kinda sucks for ISU, cuz they seem to struggle shooting there, cuz it isn't set up like hardly any other place they play all season.

For as much media attention UNI has gotten over the past 3 years...you would think that just getting a ticket would be difficult.

Re: Drake vs. UNI
the following just isn't that big for the team, even here in the cedarloo valley...you see people around wearing UNI gear, but most are alums and current students, that's about it for the fanbase. I recognized a little bit of a growth the previous 3 years (but still not much in the scheme of things) due to the 3 20+ win seasons and 3 tourney bids, much like I could tell the ISU fanbase was growing when they whoopes iowa 5 years straight in FB, winning is the common denominator for getting people to attend games. Every place is always gonna have the school's rock fanbase, but there will always be fairweather fans (who i am guessing we have no fairweather "Cyclone" fans on THIS great site :) ) UNI is just not a team you can get that pumped up to go see, ISU and iowa are (as much as i hate iowa, i understand why so many people who didn't attend the school like them) basically bcuz they won...I am sure the hawk fanbase was at its biggest back when Hayden Fry was coaching them and when they had their 15 game win streak over ISU in fb. If iowa were to become an iona-type of team for the next few years, i am sure that part of the fanbase would fallout. The best place to tell fanbases is at football tailgates. ISU has one of the best atmospheres in the nation (it's been ranked in the top 10 in the nation) There's just soooo much room and so much awesome ***** goin on (I CAN'T WAIT FOR IT JUST THINKING ABOUT IT.) UNI on the other hand for their fb games at the UNI-DOME the tailgating is very small and mostly just families and WAY too many minivans, not much in the way of drunk buses and RV's and campers.

#2) I didn't think it would be that hard to sell 6,500 tickets. I'm not saying this as a slam to you CW, or anybody in this thread.
But after watching our box scores for attendance, seeing a couple of our recent games, and reading a few posts on this board - I don't think ISU has much cause for slighting other schools in numbers of butts in seats. Definitely a case those who live in glass houses....
I don't know numbers for each school, but I'd guess that given enrollment differences - UNI is probably on par with Iowa and ISU in attendance overall, and attendance capacity. We haven't had a sell out all year, have we?
But congrats to Drake and Dr Tom. Nice to see the true underdog take the top of the heap every now and then. And it just twists that daggar a little more in hawkeyenation. Unfortunately, the stars are aligning for Stevie and/or he found the right hairstylist/hair product combination - because things are looking far too good for them right now. I was really hoping Dr Tom would get Drake rolling while Iowa wallows. Serves 'em right.

Re: Drake vs. UNI
Look who led the team in assists in the game. The front court people. They have a guard problem. Sound familiar?
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Drake vs. UNI
So the mythical state champs this year sit at 4-10 in the Missouri Valley. A stellar year for hoops in this state...not. But the good news is, Iowa STILL SUCKS.

Man, Iowa fans done have good smarts!

Agreed. Especially if you've seen the pathetic attendance at the past 2 home games.
