I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

I think thier class included 8 or 9 Iowa boys? Obviously, it is ALOT cheeper to recruit in state then it is in the deep south, which is where Chizik got alot of his men. I am guessing with the way Chizik was able to lure a few recruits in this class, in the next few years, we will spend alot less then Iowa has too!

Our coaches have to go where and when they think it will do the most good - and it is a year round activity. Signees are often reported to say they signed with the coach that was there early and often. Lincoln airport security reported that Tom Osborn was the most frequent flyer when he was coach - far more often than Solich. It was reported that Doc Sadler went to Australia to keep Maric on the NU MBB team. A good investment - I'm not sure which column the bean counters put that in. |
Why not us?

If a guy has scholarships from Texas, Nebraska, Iowa and Iowa State on the table, were going to have to spend alot more time and money trying to woo him away from the more prominent programs.

In any case the time period involves lots of coaching changes at ISU - football, MBB, gymnastics, wrestling. This impacts recruiting costs as often the old staffs had already spent money in addition to the new staffs having to make up for lost ground by scrambling to land their own targets.

They are referring to the Fiscal Year 2006 which I'm assuming is July 1, 2005 to July 1, 2006. It also is recruiting for ALL athletics, not just football. No figures were given for just ISU football.
Typical fine Gazette reporting.....
