Wes Eikmeier scores 38
Eikmeier scored a game-high 38 points on 15-of-21 shooting. He turned in an 8-for-9 effort from 3-point range. http://www.fremontneb.com/articles/2...ts/sports2.txt -
Re: Wes Eikmeier scores 38
wow, that's a shooting effort. One thing that seems pretty clear with McDermott...unlike Morgan, who valued athleticism over shooting, McD clearly values shooters over athleticism. Tall perimeter shooters...can't have enough of them.

Re: Wes Eikmeier scores 38
Does Eikmeier play big class or small class ball? I assume Nebraska doesn't have big class except for Omaha and Lincoln. I wonder whether he'll be able to play at a high level in D1.

Re: Wes Eikmeier scores 38
He's in the small school division.
He's got speed, height, and a solid shot. He's got all the tools to play at D1. Whether he will be an impact is always a little bit of a crap shoot, but you've gotta look at the toolset. My opinion is that any 6'4" perimeter player who can shoot is worth taking a chance on.

Glad to hear he's doing well. 38 points at any level is big. Hopefully we can get some good production from him in Ames. Michael L, just another comment by you that is priceless. Your true colors continue to show.

Re: Wes Eikmeier scores 38
Wes plays in C-2 which is a small school. Wes plays point guard for the team and is an excellent ballhandler. I have seen him play several times this year and he has been the fastest player on the court everytime. He is very good at creating his own shot of the dribble or passing to a teammate for an assist. He moves well without the ball and can catch and shoot very well.

(Cranks up Firehouse-"I need you now", turns the volume down on the game, and pictures puppies and bunnies playing together in fields of daisies with Eikmeier knocking down 3 after 3 against Kansas to block out the bad images of Texas running circles around us right now)

Re: Wes Eikmeier scores 38
I can tell you this, without ever even seeing him play. Eikmeier would start for us right now. There is no way he can be worse than the current guards that we have.

I think they both value the same thing, the best basketball player possible, and no great player is simply a or shooter or an athlete, they have to be both. McDermott wants athletes that play defense, rebound, AND can shoot. Taylor and W.Johnson are both amazing athletes, I am sure there were better pure shooters out there. I would never say that McDermott values shooting OVER athleticism, thats saying he puts scoring over defense and rebounding, which is obviously wrong.

He was Nebraska's Mr. Basketball and he didn't pan out too well.

Starting a skinny high school junior might be a stretch. He needs to mature and put on weight, but has another year and a half of high school to develop.

I'm excited to see him come to Ames!

Re: Wes Eikmeier scores 38
What's funny is that if he comes to Ames and struggles some his freshman year (which would be typical for a lot of freshmen), the same people on here that are saying how pumped they are to have him will turn on him faster than you could believe...ISU has some good fans, but if you just went off of message boards, you would never guess it.

Good point...I was just looking at Brock Jacobson's HS stats and he was a 1st team all-stater in 3A averaging over 23 points a game his junior and senior years. He hit 96 3's his senior season (over 4 a game). Granted his physical tools aren't as good as some of the guys we have coming in, but if you just look at the numbers it would be hard to say who'd be better at this level between a guy like Brock and a guy like Eikmeier. It's just hard to go by the stats and tell who will pan out. That said, I hope Eikmeier turns out to be a 1/2 man, 1/2 beast that eats Jayhawk/Tiger/Buffalo/Wildcat/Cornhusker?? meat for breakfast.
