If the previous staff decided to red shirt him and he gets looks from a coach like McD then he must be doing something that most of us don't get to see as fans. Also, shooting by yourself is a lot different, but from what Ive heard Brock makes shots against defenders in practice, which is much different, still not the same as in a game though.

When he checked in I told my wife she might as well check in. She'd have the same chance of hitting a 3 as he would. And alas 0 for 2. At least we aren't wasting a scholarship.

I just cringed when he was brought in. MT and Wes should have been our first choices. They were already rolling. I'd rather have Jiri shoot a late 3 than Brock. He is 27 PERCENT FROM BEHIND THE ARC. It gets better. He is 1-14 in conference play, with one 3 in the first game against Mizzou. Couple that in with his hilarious 26% FG%, as well as his 4 boards in nearly 150 minutes of play, and there's no reason he should play. Hell, the guy has four more fouls than field goals this year.

I will say it again. Cut Brock from the team. That will avoid the temptation to put him in. I am a great shooter in warm ups to.

While I agree that Brock is not an overall Big 12 player, it's unfair to judge someone's shooting ability when he's asked to shoot 3's after sitting on the bench for the whole game. It would be like a field goal kicker not being allowed to warm up on the side line or even stretch his leg. Just a bad situation to put a player into. Not that a shooter can't do it, however the odds, specially for a freshmen, are just not in the shooter's favor.
Thus I would say it was a coaching mistake and agree that Taylor, Ceaser, Clark, Johnson, Jiri, or Grey would have been better options due to them being warmed up.
As Brock gains experience and matures I think he'll find a way to contribute on a limited basis. For a walk-on, he a good get.

I'm guessing if Taylor and Clark hadn't had 4 fouls each we wouldn't have seen him today. I would think he was put in to foul, and then if we needed somebody to kick to hopefully he could knock it down. Obviously he didn't shoot well at all, but give him a little bit of slack. I don't think Steve Kerr would come in lights out after sitting for 39 minutes either. Now hopefully he gets a lot quicker release for next year and we have a lot better depth so we don't have to worry about it next year.

That being said, Mac is big on playing guys based on how they practice, so he must be doing well when we're guarding him. I am pretty sure that he will have a little tougher time seeing the floor, as Mac continues to recruit over him.

I still don't understand why he comes in, then, during the last minute of games to shoot "cold" threes. He's proven many times that he can't hit the broad side of a barn in games. WHY is he out there. No one can tell me that we didn't have a better option than him to do it, 4 fouls or not. I had the same reaction when I saw him checking in, I finally accepted another L.

I agree with what balls said... The kid is being brought in when hes ice cold sitting on the bench. Its more a fault to mac for expecting a kid who's ice cold to be able to hit crucial three's than the kid for missing them. He lights it up in practice because hes taken practice shots and is warm from running up and down the floor. Not hard to figure this one out when people talk about how he lights it up in practice.

Brock is a walk-on that is living out his dream of playing D-1 basketball...he works harder than any of you know, and obviously he must be doing something right for McDermott to think he should see minutes. (McDermott is a little smarter than any of us). Obviously Brock isn't too athletic, and he is obviously struggling from the field...but it's just flat out stupid for so-called Cyclone "fans" to rip a Cyclone that is trying his hardest to shreds just because he is really struggling...I can guarantee you he is taking it harder than any of you, and this sh*t probably doesn't help.

Apparently he makes them in practice. If so, why not put him in earlier and let him at least be a warmed up player. I think Gmac is rolling the dice throwing a cold player out there at the end of the game. Also, Gmac should now know there is a track record of a nervous, not ready for prime time player. A relaxed confident player does not hit the side of the backboard.

I think you may be on to something there. If memory serves me correctly, Brock didn't do too shabby in OOC when he was getting more PT. I remember him doing a decent job in OOC.

It depends. If you criticize somebody and it's along the lines of what everybody else thinks, people nod and agree. But when you express a negative opinion that isn't widely accepted, people throw up their little internet arms and question your integrity and character and commitment to ISU athletics.

When you question a student-athlete for a lack of hustle, or dedication it's one thing...when you rip on a kid that's busting his tail it's another...but whatever works I guess...root for them when they win and talk about how much they suck and degrade the players when they lose if that's what you're into. Everybody is certainly entitled to their own opinion.
